I ordered a 12 oz steak medium cooked my sides the house salad with extra ranch and the seasonal vegetable to which the waitress informed me was asparagus because I asked. My husband ordered the elk medallions medium rare with the sauce on the side with mashed potatoes and chilli as his sides. The salad had what looked like onions that had been soaked in beet juice/coloring sunflower seeds and a cherry tomato cut into two with shred parmesan cheese and the dressing was in two separate cups one was ranch the other was bitter like blue cheese. The chilli was topped with alot of green onion and what appeared to be green chiles or maybe jalapeno. After waiting quite a bit our entrees were brought to us my plate had carrots in a bowl on it with green shavings of I'm not sure what, i said to my waitress carrots askingly and she responded with do you not want carrots.. my husband said she ordered asparagus she said well we're out of asparagus (i kinda chuckled because if a restaurant was out of something you ordered I'd assume you would be informed and given other choices not just have something placed on your plate of their choice) however the waitress stated the asparagus was served to someone else then she asked do you want them i said no i do not she said okay what do you want then, i said mac n cheese she said okay she removed the bowl from my plate, she then states in the middle of this while handing my husband his plate i guess they didn't read my note because they didn't put the sauce for his elk medallions on the side they placed the medallions on top of the sauce instead. My steak was rare not medium it barely looked as if it was cooked any ot was cold and very fatty and greasy with no flavor. The waitress came back as we were eating and said that looks horrible, it looks disgusting to which I replied it is disgusting.. i had to dip my steak into my husbands mashed potatoes to cover the foul taste. The elk medallions had no flavor and were rare instead of medium rare. My husband said to the waitress we'll take the check we're going to finish our meal and be on our way we will not be back and i stated we came here because the google reviews and i do my reviews as well. She said our staff is not on their a-game today. My water was not refilled or topped off not once my husband gave me his water i was offered more water afterwards. i never got my mac n cheese after an hour of waiting she said mac n cheese is cooked to order. We asked again for the check, the waitress left and returned later to state they would cover the meal. My husband proceeded to hand her a tip She said you do not have to give me anything he said I don't even know what to give you the service was terrible and so is the food. We are out of state visiting Montana. We're from Texas and we understand the difference between how each state has their own way of cooking and or seasoning meals but we truly thought this would have been something flavorful to it, and the service would be better than what it was. The day we return to Montana, we will not be back to the old saloon. The saloon style the atmosphere is our liking so this was disappointing.

My advice for better customer service would be to inform diners of what comes on the salad, to inform said diner of anything that will be substituted if something is not available, before their plate is brought to them one can't assume placing anything on someone's plate is acceptable especially when people have food allergies.. check back with your diners to refill their water or drink. Be courteous and treat them as you would want to be treated if you were dining here or anywhere. Remind the cooks of notes taken for the order and how important it is to be consistent. Cook food to the diners preference or don't give preference or choices of sides per the...

The MOST RACIST restaurant we’ve ever been to. If you value respect, decency, and basic human kindness, DO NOT spend a single dollar here.

If I could give this place a ZERO ⭐️ I would because they don’t deserve any ratings…

This was, without a doubt, the most openly racist and uncomfortable dining experience I have ever had.

From the moment we walked in, EVERYONE stopped and stared at us. No greeting, no welcome—just hostile silence. A kind local (the only decent part of this visit) offered us their seats, but after sitting down, we waited over 20 minutes before the young blonde behind the bar finally acknowledged us with menus—delivered with an attitude.

We placed our order and waited another 30+ minutes. My husband realized he never received his $3+ cup of soda. When we politely asked to have it to-go, she became visibly annoyed and told us they “don’t do that.” It felt like she purposely made us wait longer just to bring out cold food.

The food itself? Trash. My husband still tipped her (which I regret), and when we asked for our drinks, she poured them into a plastic cup with visible black specks floating inside. Absolutely disgusting. No “thank you,” no common courtesy—just more rudeness.

What made this worse was knowing we were treated differently than the locals. Their online menu (which is what drew us in) was completely different from what we were given. I even noticed locals eating dishes not on our menu, making it painfully clear we were not given the same options.

You can tell they are not used to seeing people of different skin colors and have no intention of making outsiders feel welcome. After a long day of hiking, all we wanted was a decent meal. Instead, we left feeling humiliated, unwelcome,...

This is a great little town with lot of character. The Old Saloon is very well maintained and clean for it's age. The food is good, not great. Our waitress was great but the general service is rather dirty-handed. Let me explain. When we first arrived, the place had several empty booths and tables but we were told it would be about a 20 minute wait for the cooks to catch up and was given a beeper. They handed us an appetizer menu and was told we could go next door to The Saloon part to wait if we'd like. It's a separate section but the same owners. If you're really hungry like we were, you get an appetizer while you wait. And, you get something to drink to wash it down. After about 30 minutes, our beeper went off. An appetizer we shared and one drink each, $24 + tip. Back to the restaurant area. Finally get seated in a half empty restaurant. The server was very friendly, and our food was brought out quickly. The portions are small and the prices are high. I got a salmon dinner, and my husband got a ribeye dinner. Our check was $66 before the tip. We spent over $100 after tips. We noticed every time a couple would walk in, they were asked to wait and given a beeper. I remind you, the restaurant is half empty! After thinking about it for a while, we noticed every couple came back with drinks in hand. They had done the same as we had. Went next door, got an appetizer and a drink. That's quite the marketing scheme to get more out of your customers! They know you're hungry and thirsty when you walk in. They're betting on you being impatient and hungry, like we were. The servers get double tips and you buy more than you would have if you had gotten...

The weathered saloon stood like a sentinel against the Montana sky, its windows reflecting the dying embers of the Yellowstone River's sunset glaze. Inside, the air was thick with the scent of whiskey and sweat, the clinking of glasses and the low murmur of conversation. Amidst the rough-hewn patrons, a figure stood out: a man of enigmatic allure. His name was rumored to be Mr. Black, though few dared to ask. He was a wanderer, a loner, a man of shadows. His eyes held the depth of a mountain lake, reflecting both the darkness of his past and the untamed beauty of the wilderness. Some whispered of his exploits, of his daring heists and his quick draw. Others spoke of his softer side, of the quiet moments when he'd gaze out at the endless plains, lost in thought. He was a creature of contrasts. He was both predator and poet, outlaw and romantic. He moved through the world with a quiet grace, a silent observer of the human drama that unfolded around him. And though he was feared by some, he was admired by many, a symbol of the wild and untamed spirit of the West. He finds solace at the Old Saloon outpost.

Do not leave this establishment without ordering Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake. I warned you. I will forever remember my meal here because of two memorable dishes. I had the elk steak with brussel sprouts and for dessert I coerced the table into getting a portion of Stivky Toffee Pudding Cake per two people. On hindsight, we should have gotten our own. And perhaps a pre-dinner portion and a post dinner portion - it’s that good. I considered driving 2.5 hours back when I was in Phillipsburg just for dessert. The elk was tender and delicious. Sprouts yummy. Elk meatloaf - spicy and tasty, though if you are getting elk to see what the meat tastes like skip this and go directly to the elk medallions. I recommend meatloaf with the mushroom or country gravy. The pasta is a large portion and also yummy. But the STAR of the show is that Sticky Toffee Pudding Cake. I will forever dream of it. Get it. It is worth the price even though you probably wouldn’t spend that if you were at a home restaurant.

Visiting from MN and the Old Saloon was on our list. Obviously a cool old building, love the original bar back. I worked in an early 1900s bar for years and those sticky drawers and cooler doors just make me smile. We stopped in 3 or 4 times throughout our visit and every time was great. This is definitely a locals spot, we recognized a few patrons from previous visits. But don't let that deter you, you'll still be welcome. The food and service are excellent. Definitely elevated bar grub- poutine fries, deep fried pickles, the giant porkie sandwich. And where do you find a bar that doesn't serve a house salad with wilted romaine and bagged shredded cheese? Old Saloon. It was all delicious. The drink selection is great, especially for a hometown bar. Our bartender, Leigh, was phenomenal and friendly and makes a killer old fashioned. We can't wait to return this summer!
