We went in knowing that there is a serious shortage in staffing. We went really early to try and make sure we could get a seat. I feel like we tried really be patient with everything. But…my salmon showed up raw. Like, sushi. We sent it back and it took the entire meal for it to be returned. Everyone in my family ate and was finished before the salmon came back. That would have been ok, but we were seated by the back patio doors and some older customers requested that they be closed, so when the waiter went by he could not open the doors on his own. He asked my husband to open the door for him and while bending over, he promptly dumped a bunch of red wine on my white purse. I honestly don’t know what protocol is for this kind of situation but the response seemed really flippant. Perhaps the staff there is just really maxed out and I can understand that, but I feel like things are just sort of falling apart. I don’t have any desire to go back. And now I’m stuck trying to fix a bag that was pretty much brand new. With no help from anyone on the staff. (One woman suggested boiling water, so I guess maybe that’s a little help). Anyway, maybe give it some time before heading to the Islander again. There are some kinks that still need working out. I didn’t talk much about everyone else’s food but all of the broccoli was barely cooked. White wine and rose were luke warm. My sons burger was really sad. Iceberg lettuce and the worst tomatoes you have ever seen. There’s so much amazing produce on Lopez. The Islander isn’t partaking. If you want some onion rings and a cocktail on the deck that’s probably the extent of what they are doing well. Thanks for the...
Read moreWhite middle aged male server (maybe a manager) made sound of disgust as I (young light skinned Black woman) walked past him.
Primary concern is the prejudice they had here. As soon as we walked in, one of the supervisors made a sound of disgust and puffed and made weird noises when I walked past him, and not a moment before when the white woman I was with walked right in front of me.
I asked if I did something wrong as he stormed off with a look of disgust on his face. I paused for a moment and looked back (I wanted to understand).
He finally walked back and muttered something inaudible to me, so we left.
The night before we had soggy fish and chips and they were out of almost everything, so overall the experience was a solid zero. Do better— maybe do some antiracist training and work on...
Read moreI hope that the owners read this. I stayed on Lopez Island for a few weeks. During that time I observed how disrespectful head managers were to customers and lower employees. Many times they would accuse customers for a problem that resulted in their poor management ability’s. Not one of them wanted to be there and would constantly complain. While the bartenders/servers/cooks were amazing and kind they were always treated awful by mangers. It’s clear there is no loyalty between top management and their employees and I feel bad for anyone who has to work under them. As for the customers I suggest you be part of a yacht club to feel welcomed in this establishment by...
