Unfortunately, I'm only going to be leaving Cakes by the Lake a 3 star review, and honestly I'm hesitant to even do that. At the consultation for my wedding cake, I was told to bring in any extra cake decor/toppers etc. at anytime and they will add them on. I did so, and the lady working told me to email them to let them know how I want some of the extras placed etc. since the one's making the cake weren't in the bakery when I returned to drop off the decor. So I sent them a very detailed email about the topper I left for the cake, along with two cute little beach chairs, and a message in a bottle that I made. I also asked if they could do a groom's cake for us, and I left a topper for that as well. A week went by and I received no reply, so I sent a follow up email and no reply yet again. I called up there and again, the staff that I needed to speak to was not in. I finally received a call back and they claimed they never received my emails which I find very hard to believe. But with technology errors, I let it go. I resent my emails to them from another platform to ensure they know about the details of the groom's cake and the extras... So come my wedding day, delivery time came and went with no cakes being delivered. Naturally, I started to stress. My mother called up to the shop and they notified her there was an issue with things, but they will be there soon. When they finally arrived at the venue and were setting up, I noticed my toppers/decor were not anywhere to be found! I asked them nicely where they were and they said they never received them! I told them they were at the bakery, I brought them up months prior! I was really losing my patience with them, but in the end they did end up going back to the bakery and finding the boxes. My wedding cake was beautiful which is why I'm adding two more stars to the review. The grooms cake was also good. But the lack of communication, unorganization, and the stress they caused unfortunately over shadowed that. I did not feel like my orders were a priority to them at all. This honestly just made me sad since I read great reviews about them. I really try though to be a fair person, so I will leave a photo of my wedding cake for you all to see. I will not be recommending them though to anyone in the future nor will I ever be ordering...
Read moreI ordered a two tier AC DC themes cake for a surprise party in May. I sent photos, wrote out details and communicated via email and Facebook. Communication was poor from the beginning, but I crossed by fingers and remained hopeful after seeing their work/reading reviews. When I received my invoice, I paid in full and paid an additional $50 for delivery to the venue. My total was over $200.
The day of the party, the cake was being carried in at the exact moment the guest of honor did. It was scheduled to be delivered by 4:30pm and instead arrived at 6pm. The cake was literally melting and the large fondant rocker hand on top of the cake had actually began sinking into the top tier, and was messy with black buttercream on it.
It was also missing the most important details of the entire cake - The message! No Happy Birthday, No "You Rock, John" as discussed. There was no "60" on the cake to represent the 60th birthday party, and no silver chain to tie the theme together. I paid extra for this and it was all labeled on the invoice, besides them including the message, which was discussed via Facebook.
I booked this business because of reviews/photos. I reached out to them after the party to allow them to fix this nightmare and got zero response. Not even an apology. I would not use this bakery again and I would not...
Read moreI ordered a half sheet cake ($60) and 4 dozen cupcakes ($25 each). I then emailed a week before the party and ordered another 2 dozen cupcakes. The price went up, now itâs $29 per dozen. I asked why the price increase and they said the âpromotional saleâ was over (even though this was part of the original order from weeks ago). What choice did I have, I paid the extra $8. Our appt was at noon on Sunday (party at 2 pm). Nobody was there and the door was locked! I tried calling, texting, emailing and sent a message through FB. Finally someone showed up at 12:20. Nothing was ready, he had to box everything up, and was a dozen cupcakes short. We were running out of time (and patience), so we got a dozen cupcakes from the shelf. I specifically noted exactly what I wanted written on the cake. âHappy 80th Birthday Sandraâ and âHappy 75th Jackâ underneath it a little smaller. What I got underneath instead was â& HBD Jackâ. Very disappointing! The cake was very tasty, but the icing was so thick several people just pulled it off. This is a family run business, which is the main reason I chose to order from them. I donât like leaving bad reviews, but there were too many things that went wrong with our whole ordeal not to leave...
