I was having a terrible bout with vertigo, my head felt like it was in a vice grip and was also dealing with the the accompanied nausea and light sensitivity. It wasn't letting up after 8 hours and I went to the Lorain Mercy emergency room. My son drove me, and grabbed a wheelchair to take me in. They were pretty quick about being assessed by a nurse, however I quickly learned that this nurse should not be allowed near human beings let alone patients suffering from any malady. Ushered into the assessment area, being pushed in the wheelchair by my son, I was told to stand up and get on the scale to be weighed. I explained to him that I was suffering from vertigo and that standing up would cause me to be very dizzy and would also cause me to throw up. Well, nurse Ratchet was not having any of that! He proceeded to aggressively challenge me asking me how I got to the hospital and that I had to walk through the door, didn't I? My son explained that he drove me and that he walked in to get the wheelchair and bring it to car so I could be wheeled in. It was ridiculous that this dude was being this aggressive towards a patient but he went on in a loud voice about an email they received that they need patient weights at check in and then he said "I am not arguing with you anymore" and accepted the weight I told him as fact, which it was. I wish I had been well enough to say "Well dude, I got news for you, you are the only one arguing and you should be talking to the powers that be instead of taking it out on the patients". I get it, protocols are important, weight plays a factor in how meds are prescribed. I also understand that ER's can short staffed and the nurses probably have to put up with some pretty crappy people and situations but to aggressively challenge a patient who is obviously not giving a staff member a hard time was partly cruel and absolutely ridiculous. I later overheard nurse Ratchet "explaining" to the other nurses in the ER how he has a better way of doing things. I could practically hear their eye rolling from the hallway in my room over this dudes over inflated ego. Hopefully he gets knocked back a peg or two before he causes a patient or a co-worker harm. The balance of the visit was fine except for no one telling me I could leave and they needed beds freed up; shift change and no one bothered to update incoming crew. And they were slightly snotty about it...
Read moreSeems this hospital is going down! 1st, in the waiting room. It was disgusting! All the seats had some type of liquid stain on them. Tissues on the ground. Left behind food and drinks. It just looked nasty!!!! I was in one of their wheelchairs; so when they called me back I was placed in triage, just backed up to the counter. Where I can see and hear every patient and their business!!!!!! Than they decided I needed xrays, so I was placed in a room in ER. Again, I can hear and see everything. Nothing is confidential!!!! There was a pt there; which I never saw because her door was shut. But the lady screamed demon like sounds the whole time!!!!!!!! I felt she should have been moved somewhere else in the hospital because you have young children in that area asking why is she screaming like that!!!!!! My curtain was NEVER fully closed because of a machine sitting there but I just wanted to get my visit over with so I covered myself with a blanket when I changed. I was taken for xrays. The nurse came and asked me if doc came and saw me yet. I said no. She was confused on why doc hasn't seen me yet. The nurse than tells me they want more xrays. They take me there to sit in hallway because X-ray tech ppl are like yeah we did side views and all that so we don't know why your back. They eventually took me back to my cubicle. Where eventually doc came in and talked with me. I saw tons of ppl; nurse's, docs, aides, EMT's, police officers and security guards. All running in circles not really helping anyone. I did witness a lady. Staff member. Who was called over for a gentleman that was discharged but had no ride home. The gentleman was getting upset with the nurse and this lady steps in and says hi I'm Brenda how can I help you. She got numbers out of his phone to call someone. Than said can I get you something to eat/drink. Watching her be kind and helpful to that man who was there for alcohol poisoning; that's what the nurse said! She truly was helping him and that made me keep hope with the hospital! So give Brenda a raise!!!!!!! Hire more housekeepers! Try to keep pts out the hallways and move loud, uncontrolled pts to another part of the hospital! And maybe this hospital good be...
Read moreI was visiting my partner at the psychiatric unit. The nurses were extremely rude, demanding in their tone. They seemed like they genuinely did not care about their job or anything to do with making it easy for partners to get in contact with their staff. I would be directed to different units, they would say that they cannot call me because they’re sleeping, or they said that they couldn’t disclose any information when I am the only one looking out for my partners well being. They called her mom without asking for a different contact, so when they called her mom, she didn’t answer and they prolonged her stay. We are struggling with home insecurities, food insecurities as we just have been evicted which is causing immense psychological stress onto all parties involved. They said there’s nothing they could do after 12 if they don’t answer. Shes staying another day. We will be homeless the 26th. Thank you mercy health for causing even more psychological trauma, lack of concern about clients welfare including providing resources to clients who are experiencing the potential danger of being homeless, which is of a far greater priority when the stress is 100% induced by waiting in the hospital because we need to figure out where to go. My partner told me that the only time someone came and talked to her in a unprofessional way (it was a nurse checking in on her) she asked if my partner wanted to talk or be left alone and that’s it. No other supportive care for adults in a psychiatric wards, this is a crisis seeing where mental health care is lacking in funding, finding proper medical staff that are actually passionate and professional about their jobs, and the way they treated the families and partners of this hospital was atrocious. I will never suggest to anyone who has someone that’s struggling with their own mental health to go here. It’s run down, barren, unhelpful. It’s a waste of time in our situation and there’s nothing we can do but wait and have my partner feel helpless as we are trying to get back on our feet. I will be contacting some type of service within the hospital and tell them all of this. Don’t go, find...
