I had an absolutely phenomenal breakfast experience at Oceans Cafe and Grill in Playa Del Mar, California, and it’s one I’ll cherish, especially since it fell on my birthday weekend! From the moment we arrived, the service was top-notch, but it was taken to another level when Chef Derrick Juan personally came to our table to greet us. His warm hospitality set the tone for an unforgettable meal.
Chef Derrick recommended some incredible dishes, and I’m so glad I took his advice. The French Toast with Chicken and Spicy Syrup was hands down the best I’ve ever had—flavors so perfectly balanced that it left me speechless. The toast with homemade custom jam was another highlight, bursting with unique, delicious taste that went beyond words. Just when I thought it couldn’t get better, Chef Derrick surprised me with beignets drizzled in a warm rum butter sauce for my birthday. They literally melted in my mouth, offering a savory, sweet, and satisfying finish that made the meal truly special.
The ambiance, with its ocean view (we even spotted a stationary tanker while dining!), paired perfectly with the outstanding food and service. This place is a gem, and we’re definitely coming back. A huge thank you to Chef Derrick Juan and the Oceans Cafe and Grill team for making my birthday breakfast amazing! Highly recommend to anyone visiting...
Read moreOceans cafe is the epic version of breakfast on the beach. Sitting high up on a deck overlooking the ocean it has an excellent atmosphere and spectacular views for your dining pleasure. That coupled with the excellent renowned chef Derrick Robinson and his takes on classic dishes makes an awesome start to the day in sunny Los Angeles. I had the Chicken and French toast (which was better than Roscoes chicken and waffles) and an order of some of the most fantastic Beniegts ive ever tasted. They are a definite rival for the New Orleans culinary delight that that city is famous for. They have an amazing lunch menu as well which i had the pleasure of seeing most of it served. I arrived about 12pm for breakfast and they still accomodated my request. Anytime you get a chance head on over and i assure ypu the food does not disappoint. Locals its a must try and visitors if you are headed down to Venice Beach stop in before you do the tourist thing. I assure you that you will not regret it. Ill post a few pics but the food is half eaten. I was hungrier...
Read moreGreat place to have breakfast / brunch / lunch! There is a parking lot with an attendant (not sure of the price, took Uber). The views are wonderful because the restaurant is directly on the beach with an elevated view. There are public beach restrooms on the lower level. We waited about 15 minutes to get seated. There are limited tables. The servers looked very young, unorganized, and inexperienced. We had to ask for coffee refills SIX TIMES before it actually happened. We both ordered breakfast potatoes and it took at least ten minutes to get ketchup. An older gentleman came out of the kitchen area and offered us blankets. That was be very nice of him and it helped with the breeze. He also set up another table because the line had gotten very long (probably because everyone was waiting on their food and coffee refills). Even with very slow service, the food and the...
