Overall, it was a disappointing experience to be honest. We only tried a couple of items, some were good, some not so good. The view of the river from indoors is stunning and the small terrace-like area and large dock were fantastic. The woodwork indoors and the lodge-like ceilings were awesome as was the huge stone-faced fireplace.
We started dinner off with the crab cakes, which were excellent and VERY large. Crispy on the outside, moist with big chunks of crab on the inside. Easily the best of what we ordered.
Then things went downhill. The salmon was served literally only half-baked. Very unappetizing, and unfortunately, a tell for what was yet to come. (Yes, I know that properly handled salmon of certain varieties is excellent as sushi, but this was not sushi.) The staff did make amends to redo the dish doubling the salmon served, but by then I had already finished MY dinner, so... The salmon this time was done perfectly and the flavor of the salmon was quite good. The crab ravioli were very good, with an abundance of crab in the cream sauce. I suspect the ravioli are pressed there in the restaurant as they had that freshly made pasta taste and texture! Yum!!
Then we had the bourbon bread pudding. It was just OK. The bread pudding texture was way too stiff, possibly because only the edges of the bread pudding were slightly warmed. In fact the heat was fairly unevenly distributed, as if the bread pudding was refrigerated and had been popped into a microwave that was run too briefly.
The staff were very friendly and nicely attentive. If there had been better oversight on the preparation of the dishes being served, I suspect the recipes employed would have made a much more positive impact.
The pricing on the dishes represents a good value, but if the kitchen can't get their act together to deliver the food as intended, in the end, isn't it actually a poor value for the money spent? Probably won't return here for another night out...
Read moreMy niece chose this place for her 16th birthday dinner and I must say, I don't think I will go back. My brother and I arrived first with balloons in our hand. We were not greeted, rather we greeted the 3 individuals at the hostess stand. We were taken to our table and decided to go outside for a few pictures by the water. Moments later, I get a call from my niece asking where we were. We walked back into the restaurant, only to see my niece and her friends standing around looking for us. I found it quite odd that no one could have put 2 and 2 together and asked if they were here for (inserts last name). Our waitress then comes to the table and introduces herself. This was probably the only good thing about our experience. Devon was amazing and deserves a raise. I then get a call from my sister asking where we were as she was on the other side of the restaurant, also with balloons in tow. Still questioning the service at this place? We get our food and not 1 person out of the party of 11 is over joyed with their meals. The fried green tomatoes are not your average ones. There was this white stuff and red sauce on them that was not appetizing. The spinach dip, less than desirable, and the bang shrimp seemed to have come out of a frozen bag. I ordered buffalo wings, well done and they came to me nearly burnt. The fries were pretty good. No one seemed to like their cajun pasta and my niece said her quesadilla had no flavor. I can say the half off bottle of reisling was probably the best thing I had. After taking a few more pictures, we paid our bill and headed out. The guy at the hostess stand said nothing to us as we were leaving. I am not sure if it was a customer service issue or a color of our skin issue, but I definitely won't be back to find out. I will spend my money where I'm celebrated, not tolerated. Thanks again Devon!...
Read more5 Stars – A Beautiful Baby Shower Experience at Captain’s Quarters!
My husband and I hosted our baby shower at Captain’s Quarters on June 1, 2025, and it was an absolutely beautiful and memorable experience. From start to finish, everything went smoothly thanks to the amazing staff—especially Lauren Masterson, who helped coordinate our event. We actually booked during the flood, and even though I didn’t realize they were temporarily closed, Lauren reached out to me quickly and made sure everything was arranged once they reopened.
I was able to tour the space and bring in my decorator, Maria from Party Works of Louisville LLC, who did a phenomenal job transforming the venue. We reserved both the Veranda and the River Terrace, and it comfortably held the 75 of 90 guests who attended (we originally planned for 100).
Captain’s Quarters provided beautiful white table linens with pink toppers, and my decorator added elegant chair covers and extra touches that brought the entire vision to life. The staff had everything set up and ready for us, which made things so easy. Everyone was professional, kind, and attentive.
We chose the buffet package, which included fresh bread, salad, green beans, mashed potatoes, fried chicken, and BBQ brisket. It was all delicious! We also had lemonade, water, and a cash bar available for guests.
I received a timely credit for the difference in our final guest count, which I appreciated. The entire process—from booking to event day—was seamless. I’ll be posting photos and videos on Captain’s Quarters’ site soon.
Thank you to Captain’s Quarters, Lauren, Maria, and everyone who made this day so special for us and our baby girl, Lily. I highly recommend this venue for anyone planning a...
