Really not understanding why everyone is raving about this place. Went there twice and will not being going back. All of their rolls are just thrown together as quickly as possible, sit at the bar and see for yourself. On top of that the sushi has no flavor! I got the crunch munch roll (twice) with spicy crab inside, shrimp on top and it tasted like nothing on 2 separate occasions. There was zero flavor. The "spicy crab" tasted like the shrimp which tasted like the rice, which was way too wet and soggy. The YumYum Roll wasn't any better, it looked delicious but again literally tasted like nothing. This food is incredibly bland. Their ginger is a weird bright, hot pink color. I'm really not seeing what all the hype is about. Asuka in Lexington has the best sushi in this state by far. You can tell they take their time making the rolls and every thing on their menu is phenomenal! Every piece of the crunch munch roll from Oishii literally fell apart when I picked it up with chopsticks. Not to mention the soggy, lukewarm gyoza I received as well with the tiniest amount of sauce imaginable. And I went right when they opened so there is no excuse; their food is just bad. Waste of money for subpar sushi. Don't be fooled by pictures, it's not nearly as good...
Read moreThe food was pretty good, however the service was absolutely awful. My dad is allergic to soy and requested sushi rice vinegar (a standard sauce used to make sushi rice) - he has eaten here before and gotten this sauce. Our server refused, but we thought it might have just been a language barrier/misunderstanding. So I went up to the sushi counter and asked for some. Initially, the chef hesitated, but then said okay. Our server then brought it to our table, didn't say a word, and then basically ignored us for the remainder of the evening. She didn't check on us, ask how our food was, and some of our sushi took a very long time to come out. After the bill came, I noticed an extra $5 and an extra $2 charge. I asked her what it was for, and she said the broccoli add-in on the combo fried rice. The combo fried rice is $10 (which is actually a great deal) but an extra $7 seemed high for just a little bit of broccoli. It also seemed odd that the charges were listed separately.
I will not be returning. My favorite sushi place is Sakura Blue and they are amazing! Go to Sakura Blue for excellent food AND...
Read moreThe service was subpar, and the vibe of the restaurant does not in any way match the prices. It is one of the cheapest looking places I've ever eaten in, and more expensive than the average Japanese cuisine in Louisville.
In regards to the sushi, not only was presentation awful, but I would highly warn against getting raw fish from this establishment. It's was the most concerning salmon roll I've seen/tasted. I actually spit it into my napkin, and in not very picky. We were quite afraid my wife had food poisoning afterwards.
I also got the "shrimp tempura" entre. The shrimp and rice were good, but there were only 4 pieces of shrimp tempura, and 8 huge pieces of tempura vegetables. Only thing is, if you order this, be prepared to play veggie roulette, because they don't tell you what veggies. To save you some trouble, I got sweet potato, green pepper, asparagus, eggplant, and 3 others I could not identify (one might have been squash).
Afterwards I apologized to my wife for taking her there on a suggestion.
Basically: don't go, you'll get a better price and experience at any other sushi place...
