This was our second visit. We continue to appreciate this place and its leadership team - even after a bumpy visit.
It was a date night for us, and we were pleasantly surprised to find a live musician covering a mix of old rock/pop tunes. The sound was good, well balanced for the room. This place is noisy normally, and the musician actually created a better atmosphere. Chatting is difficult without raised voices, but we knew that going in.
The food and flavors here are very good. We had a great appetizer with the beet chip fondue (delicious), then for our main dishes I got the enchiladas and my wife got the pulled pork sandwich. The food was delicious, (although the acidity of my dish gave me some stomach discomfort later.)
Our only negative, was with service. Our server checked in on us and asked how everything was, when we only had water. It was odd, but we chalked it up to a full house and being busy. It was a little long for our appetizer about 15 min for chips and dip - but again we chalked it up to being a busy night, and we weren't in a rush. My main dish came out about 20 min after the appetizer, and I waited to start eating, because I figured my wife's sandwich would come out right after. After 10 more min we were looking for our server, because my wife told me to start eating without her, so my food wouldn't get cold, and we realized we didn't have any flatware. My wife went to the hostess and got our flatware. 5 more minutes pass, still no food for my wife, and no server. I had taken a few bites of my now luke-warm enchiladas (which still tasted good), and continued to watch for our server. After finishing most of my first enchilada (another 10 min) and the corn slaw, I started to get up to find a manager. Just then I saw someone come out of the kitchen and make a hand-off to our server (who had just re-appeared) - they had my wife's sandwich. (We didn't get a picture because she started eating it right away. :-) )
Our server apologized for the delay, and I thanked her for her apology and expressed our disappointment at not being able to eat together with 20+ minutes between our main dishes being served. She said she understood and immediately sent the manager over, who apologized, and before we could respond said he would comp that part of our meal - which they did. Our server returned and apologized again, and we thanked her for her follow-through.
We don't know what happened, and it wasn't an ideal date night, BUT we were very grateful for a restaurant and manager who demonstrate ownership and priority around customer experience. We do highly recommend the food, and even made a referral to someone else we met that evening in a local store. We will be...
Read moreWhat a complete disappointment, especially on my birthday. When I approached the host and requested seating for three, the response was incredibly snarky and unwelcoming "oh, you don't have a reservation" despite the restaurant being only half full at 5:30 on a Friday evening. We were reluctantly seated at a large round high-top near the arcade games, where we waited for at least 15 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. To make matters worse, my husband witnessed two waiters arguing over who would serve us.
Finally, when our waiter arrived, he asked if we had been helped yet, to which we replied no, and he responded with a less-than-enthusiastic "Well then, I guess I can." The food options on the menu were severely limited and overpriced for the quality and portion sizes. My husband ordered the $19.00 cheesesteak, asking to upgrade from the chips to French fries for an additional $7.00. The cheesesteak turned out to be small, excessively greasy, and essentially resembled pot roast, while the French fries were nothing special and definitely not worth the upcharge. It was undoubtedly the worst and most expensive cheesesteak he ever had, priced at $26.00.
My order of three fish tacos arrived on minuscule 3-inch round tortillas with no accompanying sides and a small portion of mahi fish. My family even felt sorry for me and attempted to share their food. Additionally, we purchased an $20 game card for our 11-year-old son to enjoy the arcade games. He played about 4-5 games and the card was empty. Logged into the app to find out the issue and here the one pin ball machine had scanned his card about every 10-15 seconds depleting all of his game credits. My son went to play the Godzilla pin ball machine and put his game card in his sweatshirt pocket and the game scanned his card repeatedly. There is a huge 6x6 card scanner on the front of all of these games. This issue likely affects other unsuspecting children as well. Capital Vending, you need to do better.
In conclusion, this was a dreadful experience, we all left hungry and extremely upset. We only chose this establishment because we were regulars at Hops and Barley in Mechanicsburg, but after their menu change and this experience, we are unlikely to return to either...
Read moreIf i were rating the beer here, it would be a solid 4/5 stars. However, the mead was severely lacking in any real flavor. I've made more flavorful strawberry mead in home, and mead never needs lactose. Leave that for the beer! That said, we made the mistake of ordering food. The food prices for a simple app seem exorbitant for the portion sizes. $17 for 3 tiny lamb sliders that were swimming in grease yet lacking flavor. In fact, i suspect they were short rib and not lamb at all because i know what lamb tastes like... $12 for two chicken skewers that were more garnish than actual chicken and can only be described as "mid". We left hungry and dissatisfied with our food selection, and our wallets were definitely hurting. $8 for a plastic cup "mocktail" for our teenager that was mostly ice with a CrAzY StRaw and flashing light thrown in for some reason? Leave that junk out and cut the price by $3 and I'd be happy. Let's also discuss the games. They have 2 great pinball tables, skiball, and arcade basketball but they lack the ability to pay with cash. You need an arcade "credit card", HOWEVER, when we purchased a $10 card, the card wouldn't read. Apparently the staff were aware of the issue and said, "Ohh yeah, someone is going to come and fix that" and would have left it at that had i not complained about wasting my money. Okay, so they knew it was inoperable yet allowed patrons to purchase cards for games they wouldn't be able to play? Absurd! Mark the machine as out of order! At least they were willing to give me a refund for my money, but it was still a pain and a let down for sure.
Staff were plentiful but seemed to lack any clear direction. The man who i assume was the manager seemed to walk around without ever checking on any tables or lending much of a hand. The staff also failed to address the 5 children treating the lounge (where we sat) and game area as a jungle gym. Their screaming could be heard through the entire brewery, and while i could see the frustration on the faces of the servers, the manager seemed oblivious. Would have tried to stay longer, but the screaming kids sealed the deal for this place. I expect they will have the same fate as New...
