Read moreI honestly did not want to write this review. I lived in Big Bear for 25 years, and this was the go to place for locals to get off the mountain and out of the snow for a few hours. We would all drive down the hill to the China house for dinner. Very fond memories. The food was awesome, and always consistent. Sadly those days are long gone. Over the past decade it has progressively gone downhill. Have not been here and probably 8 years because of that. Apparently Felix the old owner retired 2 years ago. The new owners are incredibly friendly and hospitable, and the atmosphere is very cozy. Besides that, all I can say is the food was horrible. I am a connoisseur of kung pao chicken and have ordered it thousands of times in my life. But this was absolutely the worst I have ever had. Did not taste like Kung Pao sauce or anything close. It tasted more like sour lemon juice. It was completely Bland and tasteless. It was truly awful. My wife got the lemon chicken, and it was Bland and tasteless too. The wontons were obviously in the freezer for months and you could definitely tell they were completely freeze dried, stale and horrible. The only thing that was even edible was the egg flour soup with corn soup and the egg roll. The lunch specials are $14, and the rest of the menu is very overpriced, especially for this area where people are not obviously not rich. The dinner combos are $30 per person now. You can just about have a lobster dinner at Red Lobster for the same price as eating here now. I had such a bad taste in my mouth after eating that I actually had to chew on the lemon wedge in the water and gargle a bit to try and get the awful taste out of my mouth. Sadly I must bid a fond farewell to...
Read moreThis had become our favorite chinese restaurant after our favorite closed due to the pandemic. The owner was always nice. We had become regulars with them. The food is good but on our last visit we ordered to go. We just live 8 minutes away. We ordered three items and mine was orange chicken which i have had every time I eat there. This time it tasted off, I ate 2 pieces and the smell hit me. It was ammonia. I could taste it and smell it, I had my husband smell it and he smelled it also. I took it back and quietly told the girl working that it was bad. She got the owner and he asked if I wanted something else. I said no!!! I'm not hungry now, my skin fells prickly and I have no appetite, plus I still taste ammonia. He was rude, as if it was my fault. He said I should have checked it. Really? Mine was on the bottom of the bag and he wants me to taste and smell everything before I leave? That is ridiculous and even if I did, I had paid for it and still would have wanted my money back if I found it to be bad. He said they don't do refunds. He just continued to be rude as if it was me by saying he has served it all day with no complaints. SOOO!!! He then just wanted to give me part of the money and I said no. I want the cost of my food, just the chicken I ordered. So anyone getting take out, take time to go through everything before you leave. I won't eat there again, not just because the food was bad but because of the way...
