I went to the Farmstead Cafe in downtown Luther, America to enjoy their Thursday Special, the $27 Irish Pub Burger.
No, it wasn't really $27 dollars, but I guarantee you, the same burger in a swanky big city place with some chef throwing salt at you would cost that! (For the record, my entire lunch, which could have been split into two meals, was just under $15, including my drink.)
This burger was fantastic, folks! (Of course all of their food is amazing...). Starting with a 1/3lb patty of their locally sourced fresh ground beef, it was topped with their Irish whisky BBQ sauce, sautéd onions, smoked cheddar, onion crisps, arugula, and thick bacon. Served on a toasted bun and a choice of one of their delicious sides (I went with the potato salad and it was a great pairing with the burger...it is mayo based, so be prepared--no mustard salad there.).
I've had lots of burgers, and many claim to be "the best". I will say it's one of the best gourmet burgers you'll have in this area. You can also build your own from a lonnnnggg list of options.
If you haven't been to Farmstead, they serve a variety of home cooked specialties, with daily rotating specials to complement their menu. They serve craft sodas (the black cherry is my go-to) in addition to other drinks. They also have ready to cook antibiotic and hormone free beef and pork, Marak Family Farm milk, as well as jams, jellies, coffee and more.
Of special note is their "Gluten Friendly" and allergy sensitive options. If you have an allergy or sensitivity to certain ingredients, talk with them about your options--they can most likely recommend choices or make adjustments to the menu to help accommodate you. As they stated, they can't say they are "gluten free" or such, because food is prepped in a common kitchen, where other foods are prepared, but they can help minimize crossover and...
Read moreWhat an amazing treat at an out of the way location. When you arrive, there is a sense of Nuevo Americana. They off farm fresh vegetables, meat, and dairy products for sale, as well as local made craft items. The food was exceptional. My wife had a phenomenal Deviled Egg Salad Sandwich, served with a tasting side of slaw. The egg salad was very light and weighted down with too much mayo. The slaw was vinegar based and very good. I had the Signature 1/3 lb Burger. The burger was very good. Juicy, yet not greasy. The bun was grilled perfectly. There was just the right amount of toppings on the burger. The burger and toppings were very fresh tasting. For a side, I enjoyed Luther Caviar, their take on cowboy caviar. This was very good as well. The only low point, and it's a minor one. They only offered apple cinnamon tea as their sweet tea. I actually looked forward to this. While not terrible, it tasted just like cinnamon spice tea. This was a bit disappointing considering the high quality of the other items that all seemed to be fresh or homemade. That withstanding this is an exceptional place to eat and worth the drive as you travel through Oklahoma on I-44...
Read moreIn a word, YUUUUUUUMMMMM! In fact, a RESOUNDING YUUUUUM! Since meeting my husband four years ago, I've NEVER known him not to critique EVERY meal we eat at restaurants. Whether it's service, price or quality/taste of the food, there's always some element he doesn't care for. He was too busy eating this time to critique. When he finished, he sat back & proclaimed, "this is the best breakfast I've had in 20 years"!! We both HIGHLY recommend the pablano eggs, green chili eggs & the green chili, cheese grits. We will be making this a regular destination, & are looking forward to bringing our out-of-town guests! The atmosphere also gets an A+, & the service... impeccable! Thanks to Neil & his staff for making...
