Having lived in Lynchburg for 2 years now, and taking Timberlake on my commute to work, I've seen quite a lot of the Jade Palace. It feels as though every time I glance over at this very oriental almost to the point of being gaudy restaurant that the parking lot is mostly empty. But something always drew my eye to it. Suffice it to say this past weekend my girlfriend insisted we give it a try.
When walking in, there is a distinctive feeling of recognitio, yes, this restaurant serves Chinese and Japanese food. I went on a sunday night around 6pm, the buffet area was closed so I won't be speaking on that. The atmosphere of this restaurant is appealing, you walk inside and are instantly transported to a faraway land. (Now, there are some scrapes on the walls and the seats feel well worn, but that is to be expected of a restaurant that has been around for some time.)
The waitress greeted us at our table and was very friendly, and polite. Offering us alternative drinks when the tea that my girlfriend asked for was not on the menu. She brought our beverages out very quickly, along with some of crispy chinese noodles. The noodles were warm, and a great appetizer to munch on while we looked over the menu.
We decided upon a bowl of soup, some pork fried rice, and an egg roll. When I ordered the pork fried rice, the waitress asked me if I wanted the vegetables included, I've never been asked this before, but appreciated the attention to detail.
Our wait for the meal was negligible, within less than 10 minutes our food was hot and on the table. The bowls that are used for the soup were far larger than I had anticipated. As was the portion of pork fried rice. (The egg roll was about the same size as any other egg roll.) The plates looked like traditional fine China, now whether that is what they were or not I cant say. The meal itself was delightful it was not only hot on arrival but flavor and prepared to look appealing on the plate, or in the bowl.
Overall my experience here was excellent, along with being reasonably priced. This restaurant makes for an excellent date night location, and the food tastes better by far than most of the other chinese restaurants in Lynchburg.
So, if you are looking for good food, friendly service, and a unique atmosphere then look no further than the...
Read moreI went here with my family when I was a kid all the time. Once I got older and then with covid world, I haven't been back, but always wanted to try it again. My bf and I decided to give it a try since we've been looking for a good Chinese restaurant in the area. We went on a Monday around 11:30am, just for the specific time frame some may ask.
The customer service was fast and whatever you asked for, they gave you. Very polite and attentive. Not many people work there, but they stay constantly busy with take out orders so be mindful that just because you dine in and you are the only table, they actually have many to go orders to prepare plus yours.
The food was incredible!!! The other couple that were dining in right before us, even told the waiter how good the food was and they got to go orders of their exact meal. The chicken skewers are great, most places you can't tell it's chicken, but these actually have such a good flavor. My bf ordered the tempura shrimp, veggies, and chicken with hot sour soup and he was so surprised at the size of the meal and the quality. I got the almond chicken, and it was just as good and creamy as I remembered it. Also, I got kimchi(homemade) and egg drop soup, which you can never go wrong with it. The kimchi tasted so much better than the store bought one i usually buy and had so much garlic in it, which just made it so mich better. We did end up taking most of our order home because it was so much food for the price, which is great. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful! Next time we'll try to get pictures of our food. The restaurant is very clean, has slight music playing(perfect volume), majority of the time you may be the only dine in table, which isn't a bad thing at all.
Overall our experience was fantastic! We definitely recommend and will continue to get food from here again! Very pleasant experience! TRY IT IF YOU HAVENT YET AND LOVE...
Read moreSo the food is fresh and filling. The building is beautiful. But the prices are very high. I ordered chicken lo mein, my daughter had the beef version, the waitress advised me it had no noodles and it had onions... "Ok" I said, willing to try it out. It came to us soupy with boiled bits of chicken and a whole big onion takes the place of the noodles entirely. I would have maybe paid $5 for a chicken and onion soup happily; this was no lo mein, but rather a fancy onion chicken bits ramen noodle-less dinner plate. Secondly, and much to my amazement & bewilderment, among the 3 child menu options were BONE-IN chicken wings and chicken fingers with fries or rice. My children love Chinese food like orange chicken or general tso and the American classic mac and cheese, but even their general tso plate is $10... We ordered the children chicken fingers which was a sliced up breaded chicken plank and fries. Additionally, the only buffet is for a couple hours at lunch, and our ticket was wrong. I understand mistakes happen, but was then told that the same $8 plate my daughter ordered was even MORE costly at $9 on the take out menu... It was something you would throw together on a budget with no noodles, a little chicken and a ton of onions... Overall, I would have eaten the kids meal with satisfaction as it was the only item that came somewhat as expected. But I'm still horrified and confused that BONE-IN wings was a CHILD menu option :-/! Beautiful 3d murals. Weird round booth tables that are impossible to sit at the end of (to help my child in a high chair eat). I didn't complain....
