I took my step-mom out to lunch, and she chose LaCarreta in Lynchburg. Ours was a late lunch, around 4 p.m., and the place was pretty much deserted. We both chose the combo meal which includes your choice of 2 items, rice, and beans. My plate was a cheese enchilada, and a chicken tamale. I don't know why most of the tamales in VA are chicken, I prefer pork, or beef myself. My step-mom chose a taco, and a cheese enchilada. Their salsa was very basic, thin, and a bit watery with a slight kick. The enchilada was fine, but the tamale tasted stale to me. She enjoyed her meal thoroughly, and had no complaints. The service was fast and efficient. I would not go out of my way to dine here again. Total price for 2 plates, and 2 drinks was $27.72 before tip.

How does La Carreta maintain its status as an icon for Mexican food in the Lynchburg area? They understand the importance of consistency. You will always be greeted with a smile. Your server will always give you prompt attention. Before you can scoop house made salsa on a couple of chips, your order will arrive steaming hot. The combination of slightly charred camarones (not at all overcooked) and silky sautéed onion made for a delicious light meal. Rice and beans are flavorful but too filling for me, so I nibbled the edges to leave room for the generous portions of shrimp. Langhorne Road is our favorite location because it’s away from retail crowds. But, service and food is consistently excellent at each restaurant.

Had the texicano talavera and strawberry/mango margarita it was a great meal and a great time very lowkey compared to most other la caretta restaurants I’ve gone to I can appreciate that. It’s a cozy and personal experience great food wonderful staff quick speedy service

La Caretta, top to bottom, is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Lynchburg.

The food is really good, maybe not the best Mexican in 20 miles or so, but it's well worth the very affordable prices. They are quick, even at lunch, and there is rarely a wait, outside of peak hours.

At happy hour, their margaritas are cheap and strong. Just how I like my drinks and paper plates.

My only qualm with LC is that they have a nearly identical menu set up to most of the local Mexican restaurants in town. I've noticed this because I like certain items on their menu and their Dinner #4 (2 tacos, an enchilada and beef con queso) is the same at several other Mexican restaurants in town.

None-the-less, they do the #4 really good and I can't fault them for the generic menu template.

So, if you are in need of a good Mexican meal, look no further than La Caretta. (It also doesn't hurt that I'm in walking distance to...

Food was very good, but I think the servers weren't really paying attention. I can't have avocado, but my wife loves guacamole, so I asked to have my guacamole on the side. They brought me an extra small bowl of sour cream, and my guacamole was on my plate, in what appeared too be the normal spot(first time eating here).

A little later, my wife tried asking for spicier pico de gallo, and they took the pico de gallo... And that was the last we heard of it.

So we asked for the check, paid, and left.

All in all, still a delicious dinner, with very fast service. Also, it is inexpensive to eat here. Our whole tab including a 20% tip was less than $25(we both had water to drink).

Just not quite what we have in mind when we want Mexican food. We are both accustomed to slightly spicier Mexican food than what was served tonight, but perhaps it is a case of this restaurant knowing its audience...

Been to La Carreta multiple times in last 7 years. We always been to timberlake or wards road branch and they had best food n service. Recently moved to forest and been to langhorne road branch. Ordered a item and given spl instructions to not add mushroom as my wife is allergic to it. The waiter wasn’t paying attention while taking order. We got item with mushrooms in it. We complained snd they said would redo fresh one. But seems like they just tried to take out mushrooms from old order and when brought back there are still mushrooms. Spoke to manager and she didn't bother to check what went wrong and asked to order one more if needed. The service and management at langhorne road branch is terrible. The food is lot differeNt taste compared to...
