The Highland Queen Drive-In — Restaurant in Lyons Township

It could have been a 5 star dog, it should have been a 5 star dog, it woulda been a 5 star dog. What a shame its only a 3 star dog, the dog itself was of high quality. It was full of delicious flavor. It didnt taste like it had been sitting in hot water for the past 3 hours, which is the deal with alot of places. The veggies were extremely fresh, the relish was that deep green relish we all know and love, hell they even put the celary salt on the dog. The only thing is, they put way waaaayyyyyyy too much relish and celary salt. I had to scoop a bunch of it off of the dog. I felt it happened this way because every worker there, is a young teenage kid. They just didnt know what they were dooing, never in my life have i seen so much relish on a hotdog, it honestly was kind of disgusting. I shouldn't have to scoop 3/4 of the relish off. Like i said, they had all the ingredients to make a 5 star dog, it was just the lack of knowledge to do so. Just a medium size place that has burgers fries and so on! Fast food, that isn't to fast. Especially known for their soft service ice cream. Also has scoop able hard serve Ice cream as well. Milk shakes, many, many varietys. As far back as I can remember, started out Dairy Queen, then went independent to Highland Queen. Since it is located at the border of La Grange Highlands, off of 55th Street and second business in from Willow Springs Road. Great local place to stop in and get a tasty fresh ice cream. I'll have to start this with thoughts on the food. It's not great. Its food you can make at home in the same amount of time for way cheaper. The burger is a frozen patty you can get at Walmart. Of course you can buy a pizza puff but the cheese on the fries is something that taste bland. Not thing special about the food. The desert choices that involve the soft serve is where this place excels. Basic cones to a mixed ice cream flurry most of the selection is great. Pricey but its good.
