Sunshine Thai — Restaurant in Macclenny

Gave 1 star for atmosphere as there hasn’t been ANY changes to this place at all. i expected for them to at least get rid of the “beach surfboard” decor before opening a THAI restaurant but that was not the case. The AC appeared to be not working making it an incredibly uncomfortable experience. there were no temp ac units or fans that i saw that would alleviate the temperature for guests. My bf mentioned that the bathroom was the only place in there that felt like the ac was working and actually admitted he didn’t want to leave the bathroom due to how unbelievably hot it was in the restaurant. 3 stars for service as the waiter didn’t ask any of us if we wanted drinks just gave us water, which is fine but i would expect to at have been offered, it doesn’t appear that the place even has a soda fountain, which i think would help and really can’t be that hard to provide. waiter didn’t come back by to refill water until asked after you could clearly see empty cups and i had to ask him about when i would get my thai tea. When my MIL was paying for the food he didn’t even provide what the total for the dinner was just listed off the food we ordered and took her card. i personally thought that was weird. aside from that it really wasn’t “star” customer service. 2 stars for food as it was completely bland. I ordered thai fried rice w/ beef and my bf order the same but with chicken. it was a total lack of flavor, the chicken quite literally looked boiled and thrown in the rice and the same with the beef. the spring rolls were okay but honestly not anything to write home about. in all honesty, i had higher expectation for this reopening after seeing reviews here and from word of mouth but i think it is just because this is something “new” in town. I work sometimes for Door Dash, and I received an order from here. I had never been inside of this particular restaurant, but I liked the atmosphere of it, even empty, compared to others I mostly visit in the area. I decided I wanted to order their food one day.

I ended up going outside of my comfort zone of food, and ordered the Thai styled fried rice with chicken. The hostess offered me a sample of butterfly pea flower tea, which I thought was unusual compared to other businesses, and I accepted despite being a VERY picky person.

It was absolutely delicious, and I immediately requested to purchase more to take home.

I took home my food, which was a substantial portion for $15. It had weight. It was actually enough to feed 2-3 people, and if I have a single complaint, it's that they could probably sell half as much for 2/3rds of the price and still turn a good profit, because I would pay it.

The food was also delicious and amazing, and I feel like I have a duty to post this review here. I'm sad that others locally may have never been here, but if the other reviews indicate: you should most definitely give this place a shot.

Shout out to the wonderful hostess/bartender/waitress. I'll probably eat here weekly now.
