I used to frequent EVP but won't be returning again. It seems to have gone downhill recently. Yesterday, I waited for several minutes at the counter while the server completely ignored me, bent over a cell phone. When she finally looked up, she apologized and said she didn't see me, but she was so close she would have had to be blind in one eye not to at least sense I was standing right there. The coffee was tepid, especially after putting cream in it, and even after she added a hot water splash it was still lukewarm. Today, my coffee was again tepid, and when I mentioned this to the server, he told me it was my fault because I poured cream into it. Both me and the customer next to me pointed out to him that properly heated coffee does get lukewarn just because you add cream to it (just ask Collectivo). Still the young man, who was wearing a red shirt and had blond hair, argued with me and, while he did finally give me a new cup (equally cold after cream), he didn't even apologize. I do my work in coffee shops a lot and go to places all over Madison, and have not had this problem with the coffee or rude baristas anywhere else. Madison has tons of killer coffee shops, so no one needs to put up with one that becomes sub-par like this EVP...
Read moreI am so grateful for EVP. It offers a precious and unique third space to so many Madisonians, amplifying local values like forward progress and community. When I go, I see folks huddled around tables doing political advocacy work, friends catching up, students on laptops, people reading the news, parents and kids, tutoring sessions—people socializing and exchanging ideas! Many of them live in or near the neighborhood where EVP Sequoiya is conveniently rooted. As an anchor of community life in Madison, EVP has a feel Starbucks never could.
As a coffee snob, I also love EVP for their beans and beverages. Their coffee, which they roast in-house, is rich and nutty, and their lattes are my Goldilocks coffee-to-syrup ratio (which people who like the taste of coffee will enjoy). If you’re looking for a pinkity drinkity, EVP may not be for you. But every time I spend my money here and not some corporate chain, I feel all warm and fuzzy inside knowing it is strengthening my community. I highly recommend EVP for the unbeatable quality of their...
Read moreI love this coffee shop for so many reasons. I’ll just make a list. delicious baked goods made by staff and consistently special. The people who work here are so friendly and kind. It’s amazing how much better your day starts when you interact with such lovely people. I have never had a negative interaction even during the very stressful pandemic. They have a keen sense, of humor and are life-loving. I like the way that there are regulators here and that there are often meetings of groups of people that happen every day It’s next to a lovely pet supply store and the library If you bring your dog, your dog cannot go in, but you can do a little field trip to the pets supply store next-door and then go for a lovely walk . There are some mid-century modern homes in the area and the fall colors are stunning. There’s a little gym as well if you want to get a workout There is street parking if the parking lot is full
