The Yellow Squirrel Bakery — Restaurant in Madison

I called shortly before closing time to ask if they had a printer for edible cake toppers. I was told they didn’t but after discussion, agreed that I could bring the design in person and ask if it could be done. I stated during the conversation that I would need it for Sept. 24. The young lady on the phone had already informed me that the 25th was completely booked (which confused me because that’s a Sunday) but the 24th was fine. The next morning, an hour after they opened, I walked in with the design. The owner stated I needed a printer for edible cake toppers and she didn’t do that. I told her my purpose for showing up was to ask if she herself could actually make the design. Her response- “not for what you’re probably wanting to pay.” I held my tongue. But that was a highly offensive and very unprofessional response. And when I asked what price she was thinking, she never answered the question. Oh, and somehow the 24th was suddenly all booked up, between my conversation near closing time the day before and my showing up an hour after opening the next morning. Very disappointing experience. I sure hope she doesn’t treat all of her customers this way. Perhaps you can just quote a price and let the customer decide if they...

But seriously... this place is awesome! I wanted a brownie so, per my wifes instruction, I stopped here. I was shocked at the selection when I walked in and because my wife stayed in the truck (therefore leaving me with no adult supervision) 20 minutes later I walked out with 1 box and 2 bags of warm fresh baked amazingness, to include that brownie I mentioned earlier. These people know what they are doing. The best part is, it's an actual full on bakery. This isn't like ALL the other "bakeries" in and around Madison where they just sell cookies and brownies.

They DO sell cookies and brownies but they also have fresh bread (AMAZING!), petit-fours, blondies, brownies, brookies, lemon squares, cake pops, cakes, pies, cupcakes, and even cobblers (if I remember correctly). The owner also told me she does fresh biscuits, yeast rolls, dressing, croissants and other holiday specialties.

I recently had my first experience with this bakery, and let me tell you it was more than I expected. We were celebrating my daughter’s 18th birthday and she originally decided that she didn’t want a cake and at the last minute she changed her mind. Well I was traveling out of town for work and we only had a few days before her big day. I did a search for local bakeries and Yellow Squirrel came up. I reached out and they promptly responded. They were able to squeeze me in. I sent them over a picture of the cake design and the finished product was well beyond our expectations. When I arrived to pick up the cake the ambiance in this place was incredible and so serene. The energy in that place was so creative. Thank you Yellow Squirrel for putting a smile on my daughter’s face. The cake was not dry and the icing was not over-bearing. We thoroughly enjoyed every piece.
