City Tavern — Restaurant in Manassas

I have gone to this place for years and loved it. Tonight we took my mom for her birthday. My Husband and niece's steaks were over cooked and my sister in law chicken was also well done and rubbery . They sent the back. They offered to redo the steaks. When they came back neither steak was cooked right again. My husband ate his because he had not eaten all day. My niece's steak went from well done to almost rare. Not medium like she ordered. So we sent her food back again.The owner said he would take all our sodas off our bill. When her food came back for a third time she just sent her food back and never got to eat. When the bill came all the drinks were still on the bill and he refused to take them off because we were not paying for the steak or chicken. That by the way was never eaten. He said something about taking the sodas off would cost him money and he was not making anything. Well here what is happening... we were lied to, my 12 year old niece never got to eat dinner nor did my sister in law. Because of the treatment and lack of the owner not caring about his customers eating dinner because they could not cook two steaks and a piece of chicken this table of 8 which bill was close to $200.00 will not be back. I need to preface this review by saying I came in during a playoff game. I say that because I think it contributed to the reason for a negative experience. First, the food was ok. Not that is was bad or I had issues with any of it. My wife and I both finished our dinners and they both came out as we asked with no "issues". I had the cheese steak sandwich and my wife had a chicken sandwich. Both were just ok. Nothing spectacular but not bad either. The issue we had was a glaring frustration from the service. The waitress took our order, but never returned while we waited, which is fine but we needed refills on our water. Then the waitress brought our food but did not ask if we needed ketchup or any condiments, she just dropped the food of and left quickly. She then NEVER returned. We literally had to flag her down several minutes later to get more water and the condiments. She then only came back to drop off our check and asked NOTHING. This was my wife's birthday, we went here to try a new place that seemed to have good reviews. The bar side with the game was packed and seemed like all the attention was on that part of the establishment. I can honestly say I won't be coming back anytime soon. We were passing through and stopped for lunch, the first impressions were good given the full parking lot and a decent interior. The waitress was okay but she stated that “She was new” and was having trouble taking care of all of the tables we did not think anything of it at first but things got worse. Between the three of us we ordered Chicken Tenders, Club Sandwich and the French Dip sandwich. The wait for the food was over 30 minutes and when it arrived we were taken back by the shoddy unappetizing appearance. The person that ordered the chicken tenders asked for dipping sauce and was immediately told that this meal does not come with sauce to which we replied that it stated that on the menu, she brought us the honey mustard. I had ordered the French Dip which was cold, on a stale bun, dried out tasteless beef and the au jus had no real flavor and when I put a little on my plate, it was almost clear in color? The other meal which was a club sandwich was nothing to write home to mom about and the recipient of this order who, usually eats everything in site only ate three of the four pieces. The fun did not stop their and we had to flag the waitress down to have our waters refilled. Not a good experience and will not eat...
