The one star is for the Manchester location. The Tom's River location has been nothing but great, and a large customer of mine vouched for them. I will not order from ANY location again, and will advise others to do the same.
That said. I had just finished a 15 hour day, and didn't want to go anywhere, even a block away. I ordered for the Manchester Location at 18:10 04AUG20. I ordered fried zucchini, and shrimp scampi. I was emailed 10 minutes before the food arrived to thank me, and ask me how good it was. I was on my way over to the store when the driver called. He was on the "left side" of the hotel. 10 minutes after the email. BTW that is not the front entrance, he could not have gotten in.
I opened the food, it was hot, I did make a mistake, and ask about the zucchini, they look like mozzarella sticks, but are really zucchini, if you open the wrong one , still looks like cheese. They gave no plastic ware, and the hotel had none since NJ thinks people on the road don't need to eat.
I walked over to the restaurant, (which I should have in the first place) Once I figured out which line was for food, the guy who talked to me was actually nice, and understanding when I asked him, of which of the scampi, and the salad did he consider finger food. (This is when I found out they didn't make the zucchini in house, and those were actually fried zucchini.) He had no answer on sending a Gmail long before delivery, or why there was no plastic ware. His manager was the issue.
When you walked in, no organization in the kitchen, none in the front area. One lady was trying to sort things out up front, and was polite to everyone, along with the young guy, I spoke to. The manager was very gruff, and rude. He stated that he was sorry, but there is a power outage, and they are doing the best they can, and huffed off, after telling them to give me plastic ware. (which they had a full box of)
Things aren't easy right now, however, if you are in a service position, as I am also. You CAN NOT take your stress out on the customer. I would not order another meal from this place after that encounter. I'd rather swallow McDonald's, and see if it stays down.
Poor management is not an excuse EVER. The meal was $27. You get 8 shrimp, and and the rest is spaghetti. I understand profits, but since NONE of this is fresh, the price point, and the aggravation is not worth the trouble, or the expenditure. NTM the shrimp have the tails on, and under-cooked. In the restaurant I learned this dish in, you NEVER left tails on. Cheap frozen shrimp. I can actually make this meal, and will buy a travel kit to do so. I travel, but am tired of restaurants like these. I'll cook it myself, if the hotel will allow.
The price point, the late delivery, after sending a timed email to show that it was on time, and a rude manager, who makes you feel as if you are wrong for complaining.... Not good. I did attempt to call the store 4 times to try to figure this out. The manager infomed me that they disconnected the phone. I used to work the restaurant business when I was younger, that wouldn't have passed at a Bob's Big Boy, let alone an Italian eatery.
I was too lazy to cook, as many people are. I know how to cook, and if more people did, or knew that they would have to work for this anyway, they would not waste the money.
These guys are the reason there are tv shows about this kind of garbage. I'm glad some people had great meals. I believe now, that half of the...
Read more[Updated from previous 5-star rating] I visited here on a Friday night around 7pm. I was left standing at the front door for about 3-4 minutes before someone noticed me and I requested to sit at the bar. After sitting at the bar, Tom (the bartender) quickly took my drink order of water and took my food order. I ordered a stromboli. After eating, he took my tray and rather then bring my bill, disappeared to the other side of the bar. He made it a point to avoid eye-contact with me and work everywhere else at the bar except me. I tried to flag him down but was unsuccessful.
After spending 20 minutes being unable to get a bill, I decided to look up prices online and left cash instead. Thank goodness I didn't order alcohol, but this is the first time I have ever had to look up prices online and leave cash with minimal tip just to leave.
This experience has absolutely changed my opinion of Charlies from speaking very highly to never wanting to return again.
The seats are tattered, torn and falling apart. The booths are really worn and uncomfortable to sit in. The customers are almost all elderly folks so a person in their 20s does not feel at all welcomed, which is a shame. I suggest you go elsewhere and give Mellow Mushroom a shot down the street.
I would love to talk to management more about my...
Read moreJust had dinner at Charlie's in Manchester. It was just awful! My husband ordered cavatelli with broccoli, looked like it was in a bowl of dish water and had no taste whatsoever. I ordered the special, chicken francaise. What a mistake. Chicken coating was soggy, had to scrape it off. The penne was swimming in ,again, dish water. The salad was so small and mine looked like they threw a half cup of black olives on top. I had 1 half of a cherry tomatoe, and my husband got the other half. We had to ask for bread, which we finally got. This disgusting meal took quite awhile to come out, even though the place was pretty empty except for the bar. It was not the fault of our waitress, she was very pleasant. I used to go to Charlie's for lunch, and have ordered pizza, but I am done!!!!! I actually told my husband to stop there instead of going to Italy's Best, I could kick myself. Will never order anything from Charlie's again or eat there. And of coarse will never recommend it to anyone. I work at a salon in Manchester and I am in contact with many people, so just know that "I talk,...
