Butcher Block Cafe — Restaurant in Manchester

We were in Manchester for the funeral of a loved one. Afterwards, there was no repast, so we were going to head back home to Atlanta. We turned into a Marathon gas station & convenience store to get snacks. Right next door we noticed people going in and out. We soon realized it was a food restaurant. I got back out of the car and went in. I spotted fried chicken. The friendly lady at the register said that if I didn't get some fried chicken that I'd be missing out big time. Because my mom doesn't do spicy, I asked if the chicken was spicy and she said no. Since we hadn't eaten, I took a chance. When I tell you that was one of the BEST decisions I ever made, it would be the understatement of the year. I purchased fried chicken baskets for the two of us. My mom is the queen of cuisine at my house, but we BOTH agreed that this was hands down the BEST FRIED CHICKEN WE EVER ATE FROM ANY TAKE OUT JOINT IN GEORGIA!! THE FOOD WAS SO HOT AND GOOD THAT WE CONTEMPLATED DRIVING BACK TO MANCHESTER THE FOLLOWING DAY (except they're closed on Sundays). In fact, their menu said (and I paraphrase), "We're closed on Sunday, so go eat with your mama." Needless to say, I would go back in a heartbeat! Plus I'd love to also try the fried grouper, catfish and shrimp as well as the other sides. The chicken and fries were piping hot. Even the leftovers were still warm when we got back to Atlanta. We ate our leftovers later that night. I can promise you that I will return more sooner than later. Now that I've written this review, I almost wish I hadn't so that we could have the chicken all to ourselves, but that would be selfish. The Butcher Block Cafe deserves...

My husband and I use to love Butcher Block, but after the last two visits we will not be back. The first visit, We order a 20 piece chicken wing and received all drums and no flats. The second time, we asked specifically for a mixture of both drums and flats. The guy who took our order said “Yes, Sir” so we assumed he was going to give us a mixture. We get home to find all drums and they were dry and over cooked. We called the restaurant and were told that the guy didn’t agree to the mixture and that they didn’t have any flats. The manager or staff member was extremely rude and said it’s not her fault. She didn’t even offer a refund, but we should have taken the wings back and got a refund anyway, but my husband was so upset we decided to not go back. $18 for a 20 piece dry drums and a hard time. They absolutely have the best slaw around. I love the fine slaw and not the chunky slaw. I also love their fried catfish, it is so good. I'll be trying other things here also. I've just moved back after many years and plan on supporting this place. I don't want our hidden gem going anywhere. I want it to stay. So I have to come back and edit this review.
