Going out for dinner of a Friday night ya gotta expect to wait, however over an hour to get our meals is unacceptable!
We arrived at Mextica at 6:18pm, the parking lot was full, it’s a big building let’s go in. I noticed the two main dining areas had large parties of eight (8) or more seated.
We waited approximately five (5) minutes to be seated at a booth in the bar dining room.
Our 1st server brought us our menus asked what we’d like to drink.
Allow me to digress a moment. We are from California. Our middle daughter married a fellow whose family’s from Iowa decided to relocate here in 2004. Moving five (5) of our nine grandchildren away from Grandma was devastating! I had one option, leave our mountain home in CA therefore we did a reverse of the Beverly Hillbillies and moved to Iowa in 2011. Asking for a Cadillac Margarita is like talking Eskimo in Iowa. While waiting for our table my wife saw a Cadillac on the marquee she started to salivate.
Our server brought us menus and tried to take our drink order. Her RCA dog look clearly explained it, her English wasn’t up to table waiting standards, she couldn’t comprehend what a “Cadillac Margarita” was! Taking a risk I ordered iced tea extra lemon. After a few minutes she nodded and wandered off.
It’s been ten (10) minutes since our server went to get our drinks, during which a 2nd server shows up bringing us warm crisp chips and a bland salsa. Then our 1st server arrives with my wife’s drink. After the two servers have a discussion the margarita one leaves with my wife’s drink, it gets better, I’m dying of thirst but I still haven’t gotten my tea! We placed our dinner orders and waited.
Another ten (10) plus minute delay before the two drinks arrive. I drank mine quickly however still thirsty I asked for a refill and a glass of water.
The minutes are ticking away, bring very thirsty I asked the greeter to intervene however she declined to fetch me some refreshments saying her duty is the front door.
I asked another young man if he’d get me a refill of the tea, he said he would, we never saw him again!
I’m ready to pay for the chips and drinks and leave but I decided to take the bull by the horns. I grabbed my glass and walked up to the bar asking for a refill. I got one however it was sweet tea not regular, I had to laugh.
It’s 7:20 we’ve waited over an hour when our 2nd server comes to our table explaining they had several large orders, our meals will arrive soon. She offers us a discount for our patience and understanding, she continued her explanation saying two (2) of their cooks were injured in a severe auto accident two days ago so they’re short handed.
Hey here’s an idea, how about having the greeter tell us patrons the situation giving us the option to either wait or leave. Frankly I’d deeply respect this thusly I couldn’t be a disgruntled customer!
Oh yeah, it’s 7:43 my meal shows up, not my wife’s just mine it’s another three minute wait. Thusly I prod my food its lukewarm the plate cool to the touch, the cheese on top of the Enchiladas wasn’t melted.
I told my wife who tried a taste and agreed. Her food arrived nice and warm with the her cheese on her enchilada melted.
I can appreciate the cowinkidink about the large parties plus being shorthanded due to an unforeseen accident.
I cannot overlook are the previously mentioned blatant disregard for us the customers who have ventured out on a rainy Friday night.
I’ll wait a week or two then I will give Mextica...
Read moreArrived at 8 pm, waited on by Evan fairly quickly, got our drinks. Placed our order (2 dinners) by about 810 pm. Restaraunt did not seem busy. At about 840, we asked for another drink and more chips n salsa, about 855 pm started wondering why we still did not have dinner and went Evan want checking on us or our food. At 9 pm, the manager noticed us sitting and looking for Evan as we decided to leave and wanted our check. At 907 pm. She finally came to the table and asked if Evan took our order. We said he had and we were still waiting for it. She was shocked we had not yet eaten. We asked for the check for the drinks and said to forget the food, as she didn't even know if it was yet prepared. She told us there would be no charge for anything and apologized for the service; she went to the next table and asked the same thing. As we were leaving, Evan came out of the kitchen area and heard him say. "They didn't get their food yet?!".. he then chased us down in the parking lot to ask if we were not even going to pay for our drinks. Told him the manager told us we didn't have to. He looked stunned. The menu is great, wish we had better service or even someone who paid attention to the tables they...
Read moreAte there when they first opened, it was great. Ate there earlier today, and I ordered the beef chimichanga. (My go to) its supposed to be beef tips in It. I took the first bite and wondered where the flavor was, then the texture hit me. I rarely eat ground beef, so I tried another bite. It just wasn't right, the texture was just not right. There was no flavor; at all. I did not eat the rest of it, it was just gross. Intook my brothers there for their first experience, and one of them had also ordered a chimichanga. He ate it but he said it was flavorless. The server was wonderful and I have no doubt that he would have done something to fix it, but I never send food back. Everything else was great, but I was so excited over this meal, and then greatly...
