La Carreta — Restaurant in Mandeville

I never write reviews for restaurants, but I am compelled to for this, due to the absolutely horrendous experience we had here. We arrived with an eight head to celebrate Christmas with our family and as soon as we started ordering our waited we had was rude and abrasive, and we thought maybe he was just having an off night and disregarded. Throughout the course of the dinner, it did not get better, he disappeared for long periods of time and then whenever we needed a refill or anything he was beyond rude and would jerk things out of our hands and make rude comments. Later on in the dinner when things started winding down another server/busser came and grabbed things people weren’t finished with and the final straw she came by while we were eating our chips and tried to actively grab them to take away we stated “hey excuse me, we’re not actually done with those” she responded “seriously? Fine I’m going to grab the plate under it” we finally snapped and said “what’s your problem, why are you being such a jerk?” She then slammed the plate and stormed away commenting rude things under her breath. After finishing the dinner we went to let the manager know about the horrible experience we had, and was also a jerk and just stated “well just don’t tip if you had a bad time” completely disregarding everything we told him. That being said we will NEVER GO BACK TO CARETAS in mandeville and will actively tell everyone we know to also not go. I have been a waiter and completely understand and am empathetic to the stresses of the job, but the way we were treated tonight was absolutely unacceptable and ruined a special time...

My experience here was not bad nor was it very exciting. I will start off with the environment inside. The restaurant is very spacious and the decor is very fitting for the style of food, they get a B+ on that. The house salsa is above average on taste with some spice to it. I believe it is the right amount for the average family. The white queso is delicious but not the best in town. The restaurant seems to have a portion issue with some of their plates that I ordered, with the price attached to them I expected a little more on my plate. The food was better than other Mexican style restaurants in Covington and Mandeville but not the best. You shouldn't have much trouble eating here and enjoying a small meal with your spouse and or family. The wait time for food wasn't that bad either and came out hot. Have eaten here with family and friends for many years. Fun atmosphere, really good food and drinks! Really enjoy the outdoor patio and musicians when the weather is good. One time we had a weird experience of right after our drinks and queso were brought to us, my son's contact lens scratched his eye. He was in a lot of pain and we could not get his contact lens out so we had to leave suddenly. The manager met us in the parking lot as we were leaving with some of his own saline solution to help flush the contact out, plus he had our drinks, chips and queso packed to go for us! After going to the pharmacy for some soothing eye drops, we came back 30 minutes later because we were still hungry. They ended up comping our drinks and queso for our rough night!
