I hesitate to write a review, I rarely post negative reviews about businesses in my community.
I've been to Spices in Manitowoc three times, the first time the food was decent, it wasn't amazing but it was good enough that I said I'd go back.
The first trip we ordered takeout - we ordered a few things at a level 2 and a few things spicy, the level 2 items were good and flavorful, the spicy ones lost all flavor and all you could taste was heat, my husband and I said we'd order only at a level 2 when we went back (typically we order most items spicy and then mild for our 7-year-old, who also loves Indian food.)
The 2nd time we went, we dined in, the atmosphere was uncomfortable, people were yelling in the back and the waiter was watching TV in the dining area, we ordered everything at a level 2 and there was absolutely no flavor, the flavors that we liked on the first trip were non-existent. We said we'd try them again in case this particular night was a fluke, so I did not, at the time, post a negative review.
The most recent time that we ordered was this past weekend, we ordered takeout this time and again ordered everything at a level 2, and it was all disappointing - to the point that my husband won't return.
We were both so excited about an Indian restaurant in Manitowoc, we're Indian food junkies and have enjoyed Indian food in several states (and other countries.) I would love it if this place improved enough that we didn't have to drive to Green Bay for Indian food, but as of right now we're back to...
Read moreThis is one of the nicest servicing staff restaurants I would have been to! We went there while returning from Green bay to our hotel. It is a small place inside a gas station, there were not many people inside, literally just 2 people were there.
The food was really good. We ordered rajma masala, palak paneer and roti! Everything was mildly spiced like we had asked, paneer was soft as if made then and there, and palak paneer gravy was just perfect! The restaurant missed 1 star for the roti, which their manager had already told us, that is made of maida and not actually aata! We knew that when we ordered it. But despite being a maida roti, it was mildly uncooked at the center. The food is not expensive as well. It like most other Indian restaurants.
The best part is the guy who manages the place, he was honest and friendly. He told us about the roti flour, that their portions are big (so we didn’t over-order), asked us about our day’s trip, he also suggested us some recommendations to try while we are in Door county!
Overall, the food is good (except the roti), the place is small, but the service is really...
Read moreWe have been the The Spices in Sheboygan. Took note they opened a restaurant in Manitowoc. This place shares its space with a gas station, which is not the most attractive ambiance. The entrance is unmarked and on the left side of the building. Inside is smallish place with nine or so tables. Kind of cramped and noisy chairs. But the young woman who waited on us was friendly and efficient. We started with vegetable samosas, very tasty. Then we got garlic naan and two dishes with paneer in spicy vegetable sauces. You can order spice levels from one to five. My wife choose two...found it mild. I picked four....made my left eye water. The naan and entrees were excellent and we enjoyed our food a lot. Although being very vegetarian friendly, there are many options for my carnivorous friends. Bottom line, the food is really good and actually good for you. Nice Manitowoc has an Indian...
