Any other place that was out of most things we ordered would fail hard on a review, but The Whiskey Girls has a big weapon. Paulette at the bar. I thought she was the owner based on the detail and vibe, until I thanked her for the excellent service as we left and asked a question which she had to find out for me because she said she came on recently. Surprised to find out her passion was not from ownership. So here is how all that went down...
Asked for a drink menu because my husband was in the mood for exotic. They were out of most of the ingredients on the menu. We worked around it. He ordered something more basic. I wound up ordering my standard, if not red wine, and that is Bacardi and Diet Coke. Made perfectly. Both drinks. Husband saw a sign advertising a Treaty Oaks cocktail after that. He ordered it. They had run out of Treaty Oaks. He ordered something else.
We decided on some nibbles. I love that you can order from Grazie pizza and bring it over. Grazie walking it over would be ideal but they make great pizza. We decided to stay there and not take the short stroll and we gambled on cheese sticks and fire sticks. They were out of fire sticks but substituted with some chicken and green chile taquitos. They were both pre-made frozen nibbles but served quickly and very hot and okay for trash bar food. Pizza next time but it was just fine for bar food and had fresh sauces for dipping.
I ordered a second Bacardi and Diet Coke. They had run out of Bacardi!! Clear Bacardi is standard for a bar. Boo.
All drinks were excellent but the best part of this bar was the vibe. And that was all from the bartender. We were not even seated at the bar and she was very engaging conversationally with every single person in there, including us, with a big smile and the best attitude and conversation as though we were invited into her home and she was the hostess letting all of us get to know each other. That honestly was exceptional.
I can't imagine leaving a good review for a bar out of most things we ordered but some things just compensate. Great expansive space, great personal vibe, and incredible energy made by the bartender. So personable and high energy with great vibes. Lots of fun events planned here and amazing neighborhood hangout, clearly. We will be back and the service here is the specialty. Made it a wonderful experience.
Also unlike Austin bars of its kind, small dogs not allowed in carriers inside. I called first to ask. They were nice about it but on the porch only so perhaps on...
Read moreWe went on a Sunday night and it was really nice. It's bigger inside than expected and there is a small outdoor patio. We were able to easily social distance (I assume since it was a Sunday evening), but no one was wearing masks inside. The tab was extremely reasonable for what we ordered, although I do wish they had prices listed for the mixed drinks. The receipt we got wasn't itemized so I'm honestly not sure what I paid for what I got. There is a very small selection of bar food (most deep fried stuff, mini corn dogs, mozzarella sticks, etc) and what we ordered came hot and was really good. There are some pool tables, a stage, and those electronic gambling video game machines along one wall. The bathroom was clean and the bartender was nice. We...
Read moreIf this bar is 21 only it did not have it posted anywhere I could see. I was refused service because someone I walked in with was 20. I asked why everyone had to be 21 if I had ordered one drink separately away from my party at the bar. When I asked what relevance this persons age had to my drink the bar tender simply said “leave, I will not serve you.” So we left. I could be ill informed on serving laws but my drink my...
