I'm honestly surprised people rave about this place (must be the margaritas clouding their judgment). Definitely not authentic Tex Mex. The food was mediocre at best. The rice alone reminded me of the bland rice that's served at a low budget high school cafeteria. I was brought here by a friend who frequents the joint for my birthday. And she jokingly nudged me, pointed and tells me, "keep an eye out for the owner's son there." And I witnessed said gentleman, as he went from table to table, greeting and chatting with the gentrified people of his establishment. Table to table, booth to booth, occasionally ordering a drink for them. He passes our table, gives a curt and brief nod and moves on to the next table and stops to chat and socialize. I was stupefied and insulted! My friend mentioned that she's witnessed this countless times before. My lighthearted evening quickly turned sour, I no longer felt welcome, I was an INTRUDER. I looked around at all the other diners; upper middle class white folk enjoying their evening. Laughing, chatting and dining without a care in the world. Clearly THEY felt welcome there. Hopefully I'm wrong, but it felt as if he was dismissive of people of color. Maybe he didn't want us there? I don't think I'll ever return. Which is unfortunate, because the waiter was phenomenal and the locale/decor was warm and fun. NOTE TO OWNERS' SON: There's no need for the bourgeois attitude. You're Hispanic. No matter how much you try to homogenize yourself, you'll never be...
Read moreI finally made the time to drive two towns away so I could give this place a try. The restaurant is small in comparison to your typical Mexican restaurant, but the atmosphere, great service and fantastic food allow you to quickly dismiss this. I ended up eating at the bar as all the tables were filled. The bartender was able to greet me in a couple of minutes despite the majority of the seats being filled. His demeanor is perfectly professional and timing spot on. I never felt rushed. I started with a Modelo Especial on tap... Perfect taste and temperature. He also left me some chips and fresh salsa to munch on while I was deciding what I'd have for dinner, which ended up being the Chicken Fajita. The entree came out in a very reasonable amount of time. Everything looked great! My only complaint, and it's minor, is that the cast iron skillet that the chicken and veggies came out on wasn't sizzling as one would expect when ordering fajitas. Regardless, the flavors were pure, simple and well balanced. Portions are spot on for feeling full and just barely avoiding having to take home leftovers. Overall, I'm very glad I finally tried this wonderful treasure in the woods out and will definitely be back. If you're in the area, please make a point to grab your next...
Read moreI've driven by this place twice a week for a year and the lot is typically full so we decided to check it out. We weren't too impressed. We arrived around 5:45pm on a Friday night.
Upon arrival, there's a hostess area that connects to the bar and seating areas though there was no hostess for five minutes. We ventured into both the bar and seating area until we could find someone. We awkwardly followed her back to the lobby area and back to the bar area as she got the menus (we thought she was directing us elsewhere). To make it even more awkward, there are doors to go through and the space is small--would be better if these were removed altogether.
We got our food surprisingly quickly. I got a burrito, which only had rice, cheese, and chicken in it and guac and sour cream on the side. He got an enchilada, which was clearly microwaved as the plate was very hot (not informed by waitress). The enchilada was bland and not worth $15. Our guess is that the ingredients are premade and prepared in an assembly line.
It's highly unlikely that we'd be back due to lack of value and flavor. We've found better value and...
