Over a three day stay, we ate at Rhum House as much as possible. The food was exquisite. We were traveling as a group of 8-15, depending on whether our Florida family joined us that day or not. In that time period, we tried just about everything on the menu. The buttery seared scallops with the incredible parmesan polenta; the bison which was cooked to order, tender and flavorful; the chicken shawarma was so tender and flavorful we ordered it both nights. There was a roasted carrot soup, with coconut and ginger, that was a perfect balance of creamy, roasted and spicy. The special fish was cooked to highlight the delicate nature of the fish and add a slight nuttiness. And for dessert, the mango sorbet tasted like a bite of fresh mango. All flavors were balanced so beautifully, we asked for the chef to come out on the last night to give him a standing ovation. As for the ambiance, the inside is cozy and classy like a 1920's wooden ship from an Agatha Christie novel. There are cozy benches with upholstered cushions. The bar chairs look out at the stunning view, just past the vast array of liquor. The outer deck provided a warm and protected view of the water in the morning, and an elegant table for 15 at night. Mackenzie and Sidney were stand out in their service with a friendly yet professional air. We only wished we could take them all home with us. Last but not least, the Mai Tais were to die for!!!! Not like any other I've ever had. All the ingredients were top shelf with a perfect balance of smokey, sweet and a little tart. Try it with a float of rum on top. Sidney and Mackenzie are masters at the craft of the Mai Tais (Sidney trained Mackenzie). Whether you are a local or a lucky tourist, please give Rhum House your patronage. Make it your first meal in your trip, so you can come back as often as you like if it charms you as much as it did us.

The Rhum House was recommended to us by a local. We've been to all of the touristy places, so we want to know what locals think. Vanessa from 7 Mile Grill was on point. The weather was cold and rainy, so we'd love to come back on a beautiful sunny day. But we sat inside and enjoyed every minute. The dining room is lovely with a lot of attention to detail. Anthony was our server and he was stellar. He was friendly, fast, and very knowledgeable. We ordered Mai Tais and a vodka sprite. We started with smoked pork belly and Key West Pinks. The crispy pork belly had yuca purée, black truffle banana honey, and beet pickled fennel. It was a flavor explosion that melted in our mouths. The shrimp were large, fresh, and juicy. We followed with seared scallops in a truffle corn purée and seared yellowtail snapper with a squash purée and glazed brussel sprouts. Wow, the dishes were truly mind-blowing. So much flavor and so original. We finished with a chocolate croissant bread pudding which was unlike anything we have ever tasted. This place blew us away, it was our favorite meal of the trip. We will definitely be back on a nice day so we can enjoy the view while we enjoy the menu.

Grassy Flats has become one of our favorite restaurants in the Florida Keys! We belong to the International & Food Society of the Florida Keys. We decided (last minute) to have our dinner at the Rhum House. I called and spoke to their outstanding manager Lesslie. Between Lesslie, the owner and the amazing staff they pulled together a FEAST that was perfectly paired with wines for 30 people. The evening was perfect! The food was excellent, the service was over the top amazing and the whole evening left everyone in our group wanting to plan their next dinner out at the Rhum house. The night of our dinner Jannet oversaw everything making sure that everything was perfect. To finish off the evening Matt the owner took us over to the new market in front of the property called Land and Sea Market. Even though the market/wine shop/Cafe/bakery/Meat & Fresh seafood counter is still not fully stocked (2 weeks to go)- we all went into the market so excited about what is to come for our little island. Thank you to EVERYONE at Grassy Flats Hotel/Rhum House - Your commitment to excellence really shows!

When I find a restaurant that I really really like, I usually don’t give it a review in fear that it will get too busy. In the case of Rhum House, I have to make an exception. We are here for six weeks and had dinner here with our daughter and son-in-law who live here and are big fans. We find the atmosphere at Rhum House to be intimate, elegant, and very tasteful. It makes for a nice evening out. The service is excellent as our server, Anthony, was very helpful and he was backed up by Bev at the Bar mixing some excellent drinks. Best of all, the food was amazing! We feasted on seared scallops and snapper. All was exquisitely prepared and presented to us. Probably the best seafood I have had. We have now gone two nights in a row and will be back soon. And by the way, go early and enjoy a cocktail on the deck upstairs with some live music. Sunsets are gorgeous!

The food was excellent. The service was great. And you couldn't ask for a better atmosphere. Well worth it. Highly recommend. Update-- Today's experience was terrible. The bar and food service were so slow. Luckily, Janet tried her best to keep us calm. We were comped drinks and desserts, which was so nice of her. However, it doesn't make up for everything else. Where was the manager? She/He should have been on top of things to ensure that everyone had a great experience. Until they get their act together, it will be quite some time before we come back. This is so sad as we were looking forward to having dinner there. And it's hard to recommend a place just based on the quality of food. 2nd update - They redeemed themselves. They had the scallops which were great. Our server, Doug, was quite attentive! Hopefully they keep up the great work.

Amazing experience for my wife's birthday...and our best meal in the keys (living here nearly 5 years). Called ahead and made special arrangements with the chef for a tasting menu...10 courses - best of the menu. Everything was outstanding. Atmosphere. The Rhum House is situated in the second floor of the GrassyFlats Resort...meaning, ocean views galore. Rum. We shared a 5 run flight choosing from some very good, higher end rums. Food. Very well prepared, genuinely creative dishes with a focus on every flavor, the interplay between textures - truly amazing. Can't say enough about The Rhum House at Grassy Flats Resort...worth the quick drive from Marathon or the longer (scenic) drive from Islamorada.
