10/10 carrot dip dip. I’ve never tasted anything quite like this. I really like that it wasn’t excessively sweet and seasoned with exotic spices. I could feel the carrot shining through. Easily the star of my dinner here much to my surprise.
8/10 the other sides. The corn was mid compared to the corn I had at Valentina’s in Austin. It just felt bland and it had too much going on. It was also a little too dry. I thought the curried beans were too bland as well but after a while they grew on me. The were cold and I needed something to counteract the overly salty brisket.
6/10 brisket. The cut of brisket was good, but it was waaaaay too salty. I did ask for burnt ends but I’ve never had burnt ends this salty before. I also felt some off flavors on one of the slices I got. Lastly no matter how much I tried sniffing around I wasn’t satisfied with how smoky the brisket felt. I saw a smoke ring but that was about it.
6/10 brisket tacos. There was too little brisket and too much other stuff. The brisket was simply overwhelmed by the sour cream and cheese, in stark contrast to what I observed at Valentina’s where the brisket played a starring role.
10/10 service. Everyone was super nice, and the bbq spot itself is a quaint establishment with a cute small-town vibe where the regulars are welcomed like old friends.
It pains me to give this spot 3 stars because the carrot dip dip was phenomenal. But this is a bbq spot in Texas. Brisket is what matters.

Read moreOne of my favorite things about being a recent Marfa transplant is that now I have the opportunity to try all the places that I wouldn't have the chance to hit on tourist time, and Convenience West is one of those places. You know as soon as you roll up that they are not playing. Line of people outside. A grill big enough to sleep 2. The menu written in Sharpie on some butcher paper. I ordered the rib torta and the reaction from the lady at the register was "hell yeah! You're gonna love that one." And she was right. The sandwich plus a side of cajun red beans were more than even a seasoned eater like myself could put away in one attempt, but damn if I didn't try. I hated the idea of any of this excellent meal going to waste. Barbecue places can be really hit or miss. I've been to restaurants that traffic in dry meat you're expected to soak in sauce to make it palatable. This is not one of those spots. Their meats, their entrees, and their sides are all absolutely killer. I'm honestly looking forward to...
Read moreI’m going to say it: the best ribs I have ever had. And the brisket is up there. Even the potato salad may be the best potato salad I’ve had. This place is incredible. I will never come to Marfa again without planning around getting bbq from here because I don’t think I can be in Marfa and not eat here without complete regret. From the hot links to the chicken, it was just a highlight. The added tortillas and salsa to make tacos was just a bonus. I have yet to even mention the pickles. Order the pickles! What a highlight of my time in Marfa. But it was so good that this place was a highlight beyond just my visit. You do have to order ahead. So, if you’re visiting, plan early! Their hours and food availability seem very limited right now. But I hope you...
