Hubby brought me here for my birthday. This was our first time at this restaurant. There was ample parking. After parking and walking to the door, there was a sign posted on the door advising that their eas a crabmeat shortage.
As we entered, we stopped at the hostess stand and waited to be seated. The young hostess aked if we wanted indoor or outdoor seating, we decided on dining inside. Then she asked if we had a seating preference, and we advised not too close to too many people. We were seated by the window the overlooked the outdoor seating and the bay area.
We overlooked the menu and once our server came upon our table, we were ready to order. We started with the calamari for an appetizer. I ordered the build your own entree, which included the salmon (I chose broiled) and it came with two sides, and I chose the side salad, no onions w/ oil and vinegar and baked potato. My husband ordered the seafood sampler, which came with shrimp, scallops, oysters, and Mahi Mahi, along with cucumber salad, string beans, and french fries. And for our drinks, he had the Heineken Zero and I had the Mango Chesapeake Bay Crush.
The appetizer came out with fresh marinara sauce. The seasoning was on point, and they were served pipping hot. The best part I like that we were able to enjoy our appetizer in peace before being bumb rushed with entrees (which I hate).
Finally dinner was served. Everything looked amazing and we immediately dived in. And there was no complaints from us. Everything was cooked to perfection and we already making plans to come back and try more entrées. I finally was able to drink my Mango crush... the drink was really good and had the right amount of alcohol.
Finally after devouring our meal, we tried to hunt down our server to see the dessert menu. When she did come to remove the dishes, she advised she would come back to tell us the desserts. After minutes of waiting, we feared our server forgot us. So I left to go to the bathroom and hoped she came and informed my husband of the desserts. When I returned, he said I think our server forgot us. Finally we waved her down, and she downplayed saying she was waiting on me to return from the ladies room. Yeah ok!
She did give us a list of different desserts, but since it was birthday I decided on the strawberry cheesecake cake, which was really good. đ Yum yum yum. It was so moist and sweet. I am glad I chose it, even after I saw the Maryland layered cake.
I would've gave 5 stars, which they do deserve, but I hate chasing down a server. Overall, food was good and I highly...
Read moreI wish I did not even have to give 1 star because this place does not deserve it. We went there last night for my nephew's 21st birthday dinner for dinner at 5pm. There were 10 people in our party. Upon arrival at 4pm my husband and I decided to have a drink at the outside bar. We sat down and there were about 4 people at the bar. The woman bartender looked up at us and in a very rude tone states "It is going to be while before I can get to you." Having worked in the industry back in my college days I politely replied "no problem, take your time." After about 10 minutes she never even came over to us. Instead she was hollering at a bus boy that someone needed to go to the store because they were out of something. We decided to go to the inside bar so that we could grab a beer there.
Around 5 pm when the rest of our party arrived we were sat at an outside table and were not given menus. About 10 minutes go by and a waitress finally comes over to get drink orders. She took the order and brought us drinks but still never got menus. My niece went to the hostess stand but to get them but no one was there.
Another 10 minutes goes by and we ask for menus again. At this point another waitress came over and gave them to us. We ordered some appetizers that took over 40 minutes. Mind you the restaurant was DEAD. There were about 3 other tables outside and very few tables inside.
They were out of a lot of items which was no big deal. Everyone orders their meals and an hour later, yes 1 hour, later only 6 of the dinners came out. We were still waiting on 4 more. 15 minutes passes and one more dinner is brought out. A few minutes later we see two bus boys with two orders of seafood linguini fighting out loud about where they are supposed to go. They leave the food on an empty table and my husband went over to tell them that the dinners probably belong to us. Finally the last meal comes out after everyone had finished eating. The food was cold and the filet tasted like a piece of cardboard. Our waitress was absent most of the time and was not very friendly at all. Being a prior waitress I know how things can get at a restaurant and I am sure it was not her fault so we were extremely patient with her.
This was a HORRIBLE experience and I am not quite sure how this place stays in business. The owners better improve their service levels if they want to make it. I would never recommend this...
Read moreMy friend and I went to Dock of the Bay Restaurant in Sparrows Point today after church.
The atmosphere felt a bit sketchy but we decided to stay since we had traveled a considerable distance to get there.
We both ordered the blackened Mahi-Mahi. My friend order the it on a kaiser roll and I ordered it in a wrap.
The food arrived shortly thereafter. When I took a bite from my wrap it tasted bland so I added salt and pepper. I took another bite and it was still bland so I opened the wrap to see if I had been given the wrong order.
When I opened the wrap I saw something that I could not identify as mahi-mahi or any other kind of meat.
The waitress stop by to see how we were enjoying the food and I showed her the questionable fish/meat she asked if I wanted to get a new sandwich so I said yes and I asked to gave it on a roll.
A few moments later she returned with a plate that contained my "new" replacement sandwich.
I took the top of the roll off to add my condiments only to find several small broken pieces of Mahi-Mahi.
My friend and I looked at each other in disbelief!
When the waitress passed by the table I stopped her and showed her the what I had received. I asked "Do you see this?" She replied, "Yes, that's the fish left from your wrap placed on a bun."
I asked to speak to the manager and after more 8 minutes a man came to the table. He identified himself as the "owner."
I shared with him my experience and had the expectation that he would want to correct the matter. I told him that my wrap was not tasty, I requested to have it re- made and I was given the left over fish from the wrap that I was dissatisfied with returned to me on a bun!
I told him that as a business owner I thought he would want satisfy his customers. He replied by saying "I don't give food away for free!"
It was obvious by his approach, demeanor and response that my patronage of his restaurant was not important.
I was appalled at his lack of professionalism and will NEVER return to Dock of the Bay in Sparrows Point.
His attitude appeared to be a mixture of indifference and racism. I can't help but believe that I would have been treated differently if I had been a white woman.
It is so sad to me that in 2018 this is the kind of service Dock of the Bay is providing.
I don't spend my money with businesses that show me that they don't value me as a customer or my money so needless to say, I will NEVER spend money...
