We came in from out of town. After reading reviews in the area, I settled on Driftwood Diner for breakfast. The restaurant is exactly what you are looking for in a small town country diner. We were sat quickly, but were advised of a wait for food. It was Father's Day, and everything is made to order. Coffee and drinks were kept up the entire time, and we didn't mind the conversation amongst our table and the staff was so friendly too.
Our food came out and everything was as ordered. I had the ribeye special(not on the menu). I've eaten steaks from Texas Roadhouse on the low end, to $100+ dry aged steaks, and it was the best steak I've eaten. It was locally butchered and so tender and flavorful. My eggs were perfectly over easy, sausage gravy was good, and the biscuits were fresh. I also tried the corned beef hash. Perfect crispy edges and delicious. One of the kids got chicken tenders and fries, which was made as it should be. My other daughter got the French toast. It was good. My wife got the BLT and it was a really good. Fresh ingredients and toasted perfectly.
I would highly recommend going for breakfast or brunch time frame. If we're ever in the area again, we'll be...
Read moreOk, John and I like little local diners and that's what this is. It's not fancy with tablecloths, it's got a breakfast/lunch counter - it's a family owned kind of place.
To that end, service, although wonderful, can be slow. That's not the fault of the cook or the waitress; it's a limitation of the grill. As was explained to me, the grill is teeny, the size of one of the tables. So, all the cooking is done on that ONE grill.
Periodically, there will be LARGE take out orders ($60 or so) and that food has to be made for pickup WHILE customers present can still get their food.
So, on a weekend, the wait was 45 minutes. We were told that at the door (which we greatly appreciated). The solution to this problem? Go during the week! We went on a weekday and the food was there fast, hot, and incredibly delicious.
They had a chicken fried steak biscuit as a special. It was just the best John's had in forever. Beats every other local restaurant.
I got a short stack of pancakes - also the best around and I could only eat one (they are THAT huge).
So we highly recommend this great little local place for the best local flavor (see what i did there?). Don't...
Read moreUpdate 2/28/25: YAY! Another awesome breakfast. Fried bologna with egg & cheese sandwich and hubby had the bacon/egg/cheese/potato wrap (it’s a beast). Haven’t had a bad meal ever. I’ll be back Monday for the potato soup made from scratch. Service was fast and staff was friendly, as always. I recommend going during the week, less crowded. Because this place is so good the weekends are packed which may cause a wait time for the food to come out. However, it sure is worth the wait. Seriously! Y'all need to check this place out. YUMMYYY!
2024: Great food and friendly service. I live in the area and love having a family owned diner that is not managed by a large chain. I’d like to note this is an old school Mom & Pop diner where the food is made from scratch so it may take a little longer when restaurant is filled to capacity. During the week it’s quick and easy. If you come here on the weekend or vacation here in Summer you need to understand it will be crowded & it will take some time but the food is worth the wait. Looking forward to...
