Out in the County again, my wife and I took to the road to escape the house for a spell. After taking care of errands, we decided to go eat lunch and we ended up just south of Kingsville, a place called The Gunpowder Lodge. It’s a restaurant on route #1 (Belair Road) just North of Perry Hall and the beginning of Kingsville. Formerly known as the Tiber Creek Tavern. The entrance of the Gunpowder State Park trails is not to far away. I don't remember when it re-open but I am glad we visit them on this trip. The place is tucked into the wooded area on the southbound side of Belair road, Handicap accessible as for the entrance, didn’t check out the bathroom.
Arriving at about 12:13 PM we parked in the designated parking for handicap was clearly marked, as we made our way to the entrance I saw one of the employees heading to the door, only I beat him to it, non-the-less, he made a gesture to help the door while I wheel-chaired my wife in, unlike our visit yesterday to the Mallet. We had never been there so we asked if there were tables out on the terrace, he (Jose) kindly guided us there. Within minutes of sitting, he gave us our menus and welcomed us (I am liking this place already). By 12:20 PM we are ready to place our order and 20 minutes later we are served a hot, delicious meal and you know what, the serving portions were generous. This time I had a Beer, served cold and my wife had the Lemonade, which was freshly made. The meat: Black Agnes was super tender and succulent, I had mine in a wrap and my wife had hers on a Keiser roll, she also ordered the coleslaw, and I ordered the German Potato salad, we had so much we shared each other’s side dish. By quarter past 1: PM we were done and minutes later the bill...satisfied of our treatment, food and service they will surely see us again. Truly, a great place to visit and worthy of your patronage. Our lunch was not too expensive, just under $15 bucks each. Highly...
Read moreUpdate-I put in a dispute to my bank and had the funds taken out of the money to pay my actual bill which was $42.24. Upon my bank contacting the restaurant, they lied about the bill. They are dishonest and literally stold money from me. I had a friend and her daughter with me when we had lunch. Luckily she paid with cash. I believe in Karma. I'm friends with a few businesses in the area and I WILL SPREAD THIS INFORMATION AROUND. GOOD LUCK BUDDY.
I went to have lunch on 7/10/2024 with my friend and her daughter and my granddaughter. I had the meatloaf and my granddaughter had the chicken tenders and we both had soda to drink. The food was delicious. The waitress was awesome! My bill without tip with tax was roughly $40.24. I estimated the 2 sodas at $3.00 each. I estimated it high. I gave the waitress a $10.00 tip. I paid my bill seperate from my friend. Well on 7/24/24 I was looking through my bank statement looking for a charge and I saw that I was charged $148.43 for my bill. I called the restaurant and spoke to the manager. He seemed very nice and concerned. He asked if he could research my charge and call me back. Well, it is 8/26/2024, and he has not called me back. I called the restaurant 2 times, and no one picked up the phone. Now I called my bank and filed a dispute. I explained what my bill should have been by looking up what I got from their online menu. I will receive a full refund and take their money, and they can recreate my bill and I will pay cash, NO TIP. I'm more honest then they are. PAY CASH. DO NOT...
Read moreSomething happened to my review so here it goes again, but in short form.
#1... Do NOT get the Hot Turkey platter. They over toasted the bread, leaving a slight burnt taste (I can't think of another place that uses toast). So little turkey, my friends laughed at it. It was like 2 super thin, almost shaved turkey. This menu item should have been called Turkey flavored platter.
#2... Do Try the B'more Club. It's a club sandwich made with a crab cake and shrimp salad. It's delish!
#3... Pizza isn't all that, just ok. The problem with the pizza is the crust. It was like cardboard, they they must have known it because they sent it out with a steak knife. The slices weren't cut all the way though and it was tough to cut through the crust with the steak knife.
This isn't my 1st time here, but haven't been for around a year. I heard they got a new chef last year. Maybe that's the issue, because int he past, the food was always spot on. Especially for the price point. Now it seems the food is hit or miss, but pricing is high for all menu items.
As for service, it was excellent, based on staffing. Our waitress was busting her butt. But I'd say it was because she had too many tables. And as before with the my interactions with the staff, she was friendly like the rest.
Lastly, the men's room toilet was out of service. Got a good laugh because my buddy need to use it, but it was...
