Houey’s Shaved Ice — Restaurant in Maryland

Love this spot since they opened about 7 years ago I believe. It's so great to have a shaved ice spot this close to home. Portion size is extremely good for the price. The customer service is on-point. Their staff are extremely friendly and always smiling.

The shaved ices are really good. I'm pretty sure I've been here at least 30 times. I've tried more combinations than I can recall. But everything single shaved ice I've had has been good. My go-to is the egg custard with marshmallow. B-more folks know what it is.

I've seen/heard folks complain about the wait to receive their orders, but what do you expect on the hottest days of the summer? This isn't a large scale chain ice cream or Italian ice business with unlimited staff and space. Many of the staffers are young folks learning and getting experience. I believe this may be a first job for the high schoolers. Please cut them some slack. Many individual folks step up to the window and order multiples. It takes time to get these orders done. The staff at Houey's are doing great!! Show love to our young folks doing their best.

This past Sunday night I witnessed a family show up 10 full minutes after they closed. The brotha pulled up on the parking lot with urgency and had 3 small kids with him. You could tell he was rushing. He knocked and someone opened the window slightly ajar. The man asked the young person at the window if they could be served. What happened over the next 10 mins? The staff took care of him and those kids with shaved ice even after they closed. Where do you see that happen? That father and those kids were overjoyed. That's what good business is all about. As a former worker at an ice cream spot in my teens over 20 years ago & ready to clock out, I'd a probably been upset. But that's not the point. Ha. I bet that father and those kids will remember that moment. I respect how the staff handled it.

They just added a canopy for shade above the benches which assures that customers don't have to sit with the hot sun beaming on them. That was a great addition!!

Even though TWICE now, yes TWICE they have given me the wrong flavor of ice :) -( because the color was the same.. I.e orange vs mango or root beer maybe? Vs. Grape...) edited for whoever the responder is - Called immediately after receiving ice, spoke to manager who himself told us that he SUPPOSEDLY checked the flavor , politely apologized, and said that it was indeed a mistake; to come back for a free do over, explained to me that they were really hard to tell apart if you arent paying attention*

Wish hours on weekends were better, but YUMMY delicious shaved ice though. I probably wont support based on the responder not taking accountability of messing up repeatedtly when i am spending my hard earned $$ for at least 5 cups at a time, twice a week (oh, every single time getting mango, the difference is obvious to all of us) but still didnt deduct points, as i believed that they would ensure it didnt happen again, specifically told the manager that i didnt want a free ice, just to let them know so that the next patron isnt disappointed as we were and he agreed that they would In the future double check. Seems like they may not actually be interested in improving the service. But i wish them very well as a tax paying...

Let start off by saying I love Kona Ice. I'm always excited when I'm able to get some. It has always been my favorite. That being said I've been really wanting some but can never find a Kona truck and the Kona Hut is up by Baltimore. Well, while driving through Upper Marlboro this morning, I spotted this little place. They weren't open so I did what most people do and Googled. I was intrigued. I wondered if it would be as good as Kona, so I decided to stop by later and get one. They have a nice flavor and topping selection with several different sizes. The largest is a monster. I had a monster size blue raspberry and sweet cherry shaved ice, which are my favorite flavors, and shared with my daughter. Y'all! O...M...G! It was FAN-FREAKIN-TASTIC! It is definitely comparable to Kona. In fact, I'd probably say it's better! The girl that took my order was super nice so that's a plus in my book. Dare I say I found a new favorite shaved ice?
