I find La Tolteca to be a reasonable restaurant in general, and that they have a decent selection. This is the first time I have been to one of their locations since the Covid epidemic. Maybe it's this one location, but if not they have really gotten conservative about portions. As an example when they give you tortilla chips, they give you this little sample looking cup of salsa. You used to get a normal small bowl, so very trimmed back. The tacos and enchiladas were good, a little mellow on spice, but good all the same. The rice seemed overly salty for some reason, yet I never remember that being an issue before. Finally I decided to go for a strawberry margurita, and was really amazed it was so light on alcohol. I personally like to taste the added bite of the tequila, and this drink just didn't have it. I am sure I eat here again, but think next time I will try one of the other locations I am used to, and see if any difference..

First time visiting La Tolteca and definitely not the last. The atmosphere is lively and inviting. The staff is super friendly and outgoing from the second you enter the restaurant to the moment you leave. The food is absolutely delicious. The hardest part about visiting is deciding what to get. The portions are large so make sure you bring your appetite. I highly recommend the jalapeƱo poppers. The grilled shrimp burrito is humongous and filled with big shrimp as is the grilled shrimp quesadilla. The Beef Steak Ranchero is a very big dish! All of our food was perfectly prepared and hot. Our server was on point we never had to ask for anything. You have to visitvthe Joppa, Maryland location you will not be disappointed!

The first of all, the guacamole is worth the drive alone. It is crazy delicious. I always get the burrito Azteca with shrimp because it is so good I can’t stray. I always think that this time is the time I choose something different. Nope. As soon as the waiter comes around I cant do it. My fiends get different things each time and they have loved everything, so I think it’s safe so say that you will not be disappointed. Oh, the margaritas are darn tasty too. May favorite thing to go here is get day drunk and gorge myself on chips and guacamole and then take most of my burrito home, which is awesome reheated. No judgement needed, I always have a designated driver.

Came here for lunch with a friend on 3/12/18. The restaurant is very clean. First we had a waitress, she brought the drinks, then we had a waiter. Both were attentive and friendly. Even though we were past the time for the lunch special they let us order off that part of the menu. I thought that was very generous since most restaurant staff are rude towards you about missing the time frame for specials. I got the fajita express, I substituted the beef for chicken and asked for no guacamole. It came out hot and it was delicious. However only one thing was bizarre: the women's bathroom was locked. I don't know if it was occupied or if something was wrong with the lock. I figured someone was inside and they were blowing up the bathroom, since it is Mexican food lol, in which case I'd rather not go in after that person anyway. But then I saw other customers try the door too and I realized there was most likely a problem with the lock. One woman went into the men's room while another woman stood outside to keep watch. Thankfully I didn't have to go bad, I just waited until I got home, but they need to get that fixed. Women shouldn't have to use the men's bathroom, even if there aren't any stalls. But besides that this restaurant was great, the atmosphere is quiet and laid back. Added bonus the menu is cheap. All around nice place, I would love to go back.

Update Although I enjoyed my meal, 4 days after I ate here (to put it lightly without going into much detail) I had the runs, along with a stomachache that just wouldn't go away. At first I thought it was because I had been eating too many sweets, but then I realized it could possibly be the Mexican food. I was getting up before sunrise to use the bathroom, and this happened every night in a row. One morning I was in the middle of making breakfast and had to run to the bathroom, which is something that never happens to me. I felt queasy and began to lose my appetite. My stomach issues were so bad I thought I had developed IBS. The food was tasty, so part of me does want to go back, but then the other part of me is scared the same thing is gonna happen again. Maybe it was because of what I ordered?? The lettuce may not have been washed properly. I honestly don't know, but my best advice is to approach this place with caution. The restaurant was very clean, but after my experience I'm definitely on the fence about eating here...

So disappointed! La Tolteca on Mountain Rd, Edgewood. First and foremost, I wasted time and money. My coworkers and I from APG never had issues until I visited in early Jan for lunch, probably around 12:30-1pm. They sat me at a 2 seater booth in front of the bar. I informed staff I needed a table due to the booth being too tight, small and cramped for a coworker. Ignored. Waiter came over to ask about our water. I again told them we needed a table. A young lady then came over to assist. She then moved me to two smaller tables in the back of the restaurant by the bathrooms with one of the tables already being occupied by two other women. I asked, why would you sit me next to these two women up close and personal when there are empty tables throughout the restaurant. One of the women sitting at the smaller table also asked her why she chose to sit us so close to her and her party. The waitress/mgr stated b/c it was lunchtime. I informed her I doubt a big party would be coming in within the next hour and I'll take the bigger table. She then walked away. Very unprofessional I might add. Myself and coworker at that time ordered our lunch while waiting for others to arrive. We both ordered fajitas. Not even midway through my lunch, I noticed something didn't look right on my plate. After poking around within the sauce, what did I find but a dirty white plastic aluminum bread tie in my food. The twisty kind. Ewwww! I notified staff who were nonchalant about it. Said their sorry's and took my plate back to the kitchen, then came back to my table where I informed her I was not paying. She understood, but in NO way did she try to remedy the situation for me as a frequent patron. My coworker was disgusted and did not finish their meal either. They were not compensated. I asked for a manager and was told she was the manager for the day and call back the next day to make my complaint to another manager. Very unprofessional young lady if she was the manager. I left a bad review on their website page to corporate, I assume. However, I have not heard from anyone. So here's my Google review! I will never again patronize this place, nor will I ever recommend it to any of my coworkers on APG or anyone else for that matter!😔 If you don't know, it's customer service that makes all the difference in the world! Now you...

This is worse restaurant for la Tolteca. I have been regular customer for la Tolteca at bel air and churchville rd. We wanted to try different location for the same franchise last night. Initially it was okay and they had waiting period of 30 mins since we were 8 peoples all together. Food was nice but only with the cholula sauce. Out of 8, we had about 6 leftovers. We were like we will have leftovers for lunch. I was trying to get littlebit cholula sauce in mini container with lid since i dont have that sauce at home. I asked for container to 4 different waiters and stayed there for 15 mins for that little container. One lady came and asked why i need container. I said i wanted to get little cholula sauce to go with my leftover since i like extra spicy in my food. She said its extra for that sauce. I was very shocked. First of all, we spent over $100 for a party 8 people. And she is telling me that there is an extra charge for that. It wasnt like im taking the whole cholula bottle. I was gonna take bit of cholula sauce on little container so that i can add it on my food when i am ready to eat my leftovers. All these time i have been to La Tolteca, and i have always been getting little cholula sauce on the side with my leftovers. She thinks im new customer to la tolteca, but she doesnt know that ive been at la tolteca. I know that all la tolteca locations has the same owner and that owner usually at the bel air location. Not at this location but there are 2 other locations in belair. These two lcoations are way better than that location. At this new location, i will never come back again. That was the bad customer service ever. Very...
