Soul Delishaus — Restaurant in Maryland

So disappointed. Just left there (8:30 pm). We were craving some good soul food, and- hot fried fish. We googled "Soul Food" and this place came up. Upon entering we knew we were in what New Yorkers call a "Hole In The Wall" That was fine with us because they usually have great food at reasonable prices. Not the case with this joint. We eat out pretty much every weekend and are use to paying around $100 for a good seafood dinner. We asked specific questions about the food since it was our first time there. Okay let's get to it. I ordered a fish sandwich. It was $10.60 for a few small pieces of very obviously refried, yet STILL cold AND salty fish, even the bread was hard. My husband ordered the catfish dinner which was a little better. It was $19.00 for 1 piece of fish, collard greens , and macaroni and cheese. The fish was good, the collards would have been fine had they not been soaked in vinegar, and the mac and cheese like most places was more mac than cheese. We also ordered a slice of lemon cake since it said homemade, and looked so good in the picture. However, that to was a disappointment. It was $4 for a small slice of store bought cake. We know, because we watched her cut it from inside a box. And to add insult to injury we wouldn't have even got the cake had I not checked our bag before leaving. You would think after forgetting they would have given us an additional slice to make up for forgetting it or just extended common courtesy. But NO she told us to enjoy our meal, and sent us on our unsuspecting merry way- $34 wasted. On a good note the lady was nice, but the food was unappealing, and the fact that she knowingly sold refried old fish just left a really bad taste in our mouths. We truly wanted to leave a great review but as most of you who follow us know Im a Math teacher and teachers in the county network all the time so our reviews are always on point. Ill pray for this establishment but we wont be back. Gonna try this Crafty Crab place next week. Stay...

Unfortunately I can not give a review of the food being as thought we never received our order.

My husband and I placed an order on the website. Pickup was supposed to be ready at 4:59. We arrived for our pick up at just before 5 and the place was closed. After over an hour of back-and-forth with the phone between the owner and DoorDash because apparently they pick up the stores online orders I was told to come back at 6 PM to pick up my food. That was absolutely fine with me because I understand how systems work and I know that sometimes there are issues and apparently my order went through when it shouldn’t have. My husband and I showed back up at the restaurant at 6 o’clock and it is was still closed and there was no one there. We proceed to start calling the owner and we were being sent straight to voicemail. After my 10th time trying to connect to the owner she finally answers and tells me that she’s farther away than she thought. She wanted me to come back to the store for a third time to pick up my food which would have been around 7 or 730 if not later. She then proceeded to tell me that she was just trying to please her customer and she is sorry that she was taking longer than she thought she would be. I asked her why she did not just tell me from the beginning that she would not be back in an acceptable timeframe and for me to just get a refund on my order. After I explained to her that I felt like she led me on because she wanted to keep the sale she then let me know that she does not need my sale and she has plenty of customers that she keeps so I would not be missed. Bf was looking for some good fried porkchops 🥩 to go and found this place online. Only Soul/Jamaican food spot near our way. The food was very good with very nice portions! The meals are made to order. I suggest you call in before pickup. They are also on Doordash for delivery. The family that runs the business were also friendly. Will try other items on the menu on the next round. We ordered the porkchops and jerk chicken meal 😋 and a side order of Mac and cheese 🧀.

Ordered again on 10/12/21...for some reason I couldn't do another review but I will just add to this. Ordered catfish platter with cabbage and mac for bf. Once again he enjoyed his dinner. He said definitely down home flavor, fresh and totally satisfied with the Mac and cabbage. He felt that he was back at grandma's house. It was a pleasure coming back. Met and got to talk with the owner. She was pleasant to talk to and so sweet. She and her daughter really takes pride on what they do. Even her daughter have her own little business with Italian ices and clothing line....
