This was our 1st time visiting Sunset Cove. We really enjoyed Sunset Cove for the most part, our server was great and food and drinks were good. I am scoring 3 out of 5 stars because our wait was ridiculous. I have never experienced a wait like this before. Let me not forget to say there were 3 woman standing at the hostess desk and we stood there for a while before anyone acknowledged us. The ladies all talked amongst themselves and none of them were welcoming in anyway- no eye contact, greeting, etc.... We were told that there would be a 90 minute wait.. We figured, we would walk the dock and check out some of the boats and have a few drinks.
When we went to the bar, we waited for about 15-20 minutes because one of the bartenders, Sean, was clearly overwhelmed and prioritizing drinks of the staff. He was really busy... we get it. Sean eventually made us delicious Summer Berry Mojitos. We walked the dock and then I eventually found an available chair near the band and my husband sat on a wood chest while we waited. We waited for 2 hours and 17 minutes. At 1 hour and 30 minutes , I went to the hostess stand and was told that there were 12 groups in front of us and it would be an a additional 30 minutes.
One of the patrons was so thoughtful, she came over to me because she saw that we waited the entire time she was seated and dined.... she said she asked if she could give her table to us. That was so sweet even though we were not able to have her table. I saw a few people that I know came after us that was seated before us. I guess Saturday afternoon is not the best time to visit....
Once we were seated, we ordered so many appetizers because we were starved. We ordered the jerk tenders, rock fish tenders, seafood quesadillas, and egg rolls. Each appetizer was delicious. For entrées we ordered the ribs and I ordered the salmon. My husband enjoyed the ribs and my salmon was sooooo dry. Teriyaki sauce was poured over to camouflage the overcooked fish. Our waiter asked if everything was okay and I told him about my salmon and was able to remove from our check. Lastly, we had a few additional drinks (Rum punch and a sunset crush) once we were seated and they were delicious.
So my feedback is that this is a great summer location however, be prepared to wait 2 hours to be seated. Great food, drinks, and service from our waiter. He was really great, I wish we saved his name.
Oh and I almost forgot, I saw a sign that said the tables were only for 90 minutes but this was not the case. A couple who was seated behind us were at their table 1 hour before we were seated. My husband and I were at our table for 1 hour and then I heard the man behind us tell the waitress that they were waiting on some guests to meet them. So clearly the 90 minute time limit is not being followed and that's not right.
Would I return? Perhaps but definitely not a...
Read moreHello, back again and lets get to it. So first things first, this isn't my first time here and the last couple times over the last 2 years have been good experiences. The view and atmosphere are stellar and to start the evening the hosts were friendly and engaging. We get seated around 830pm and have a great view of the water and its perfect weather. The sun is setting and baby ducks are floating around what more can you ask for.
Well that was the top of the evening, everything else was meh moving on. Server got our drink order then immediately dropped the hey kitchen is closing so need your order? Kinda of weird given it wasn't even 9pm but ya know not really a problem. Place our order and sit back enjoying the views.
First order up was the rockfish fingers. My brothers and sisters in Christ let me tell you, this dish last year was a banger. Fresh fish that was in a crispy light batter, this dish was a straight winner. Well not today boys and girls, what we got was straight out the caferatira lunch lady playbook. You could tell that the fish was fresh fish that they had frozen and then re thawed, it was chewy and the batter lacked all flavor (I mean gordon's fish is frozen and even they can pull off a tender and moist fish). It tasted liked defrosted water and had chewy texture that you only get from re used fish. 1/10
Next was the house burger, a 8oz patty with cheddar and bun. Ordered it medium and asked for some raw onions, told that they don't have onions (odd because other burgers have caramelized onions but hey maybe they had used them all no big deal) Burger arrived and after the first bite could immediately tell it was a former frozen patty. The texture and flavor was muted from what seemed like meat that like the fish was frozen and then re thawed. Was it the worst meat patty i've ever had? No but it was just disappointing that a burger from was less flavor and quality then frozen patties from costco. 3/10
Now it wasn't all mush my friends no no, the fries were ok (crisp coat fries with that style of seasoned crust on em) and served above room temp. The wife also got a crab cake and said it was good in itself, just if you order ask for condiments up front so you don't have to wait as it was just served a crabcake on a bun nothing else. Also the beer was cold and service overall was fairly prompt and you could tell that they did care.
Overall it was a meh experience all together, the service and views are nice and overall the staff is great. The food on the other hand was what it was, idk if it was just a off day or if the chef was cooking out of a wet paper sack but for what it was and what it could be it simply was not.
If you made it all the way down to the end here you honestly have too much time on your hand to read such a long winded review but if so best of luck sailor and until next time i...
Read moreRACIST MANAGER! We were refused service at this restaurant because we called out this manager “Sarah” for being racist and treating us with the lowest standard of customer service. We often dine around town as a party of 10 or more and get a separate table for our kids if one is available. Today, we were seated at one of the picnic tables and asked if the kids could sit at one of the smaller round tables beside us. The manager immediately refused when our waiter went to ask- even though half of the restaurant was empty (pictures below) , it was around 4pm. We asked to speak to the manager and as soon as she got to our table she began raising her voice, had a full attitude and was talking to us as if we weren’t going to pay. At that point, we knew she was treating us differently because she is a racist. So I asked her” is this how you treat your white customers? We are willing to pay two separate checks or whatever if that is the problem. We have never had an issue sitting at a separate table from our teenage kids.” She then began to raise her voice and get very rude and defensive and finally said she was going to refuse us service, called the only BLACK security guard on file to tell us to leave and went to the bar to get a drink. My brother then politely asked for the owners name and she continuously put her hands in his face saying he could contact the front for it. This is not our fist time at Sunset Cove nor is it our first time dining out. I review restaurants on Tik Tok and Instagram and get thousands of views. Never have I encounters such disgusting customer service- this manager should NOT be in the hospitality/restaurant business.
Not only did Sunset Cove lose loyal diners today but so many other paying customers came up to us telling us how unethical and unfair the manager treated us. I am so disappointed knowing that people, like Sarah, are being put in positions to hurt paying customers, thriving businesses and hard working employees.
Update: Sarah has recruited her friends to leave fake good reviews,...
