The Hickory Lodge — Restaurant in Maryland

The Hickory Lodge has been one of our Go-To restaurants for years...We have always had great service, food has been good. However, recently, I took my adult son to lunch on March 29, and brought takeout food home to my husband. Food seemed fine, service was exceptional, had a great experience.

Then I got home. Immediately, I had to get to the bathroom for a nasty experience in the bathroom, multiple times. A short time later, my son was in the bathroom having the same painful and awful experience in the bathroom. About 30 minutes after my husband ate the carry out food I brought home from Hickory Lodge, he had the same awful experience in the bathroom.

My daughter, who DID NOT eat food from Hickory Lodge was the only person who DID NOT get sick.

I called and spoke with the manager, Roger, who was polite, but suggested that gastro symptoms usually appear 24-48 hours after eating and we should consider where else we had eaten previously, as that may be the culprit. We had not eaten out previously and mind you, my adult son does not live at home and had not eaten with us in a week, got sick as well, so it is quite suspicious that all 3 of us had issues within an hour of eating food from the establishment. (Adult daughter who did not eat there was just fine....). I asked for a refund of the food since it made us all ill, and the manager told us he would reach out to the owner. I received a call the next day from Roger, who said he had spoken to the owner and she has decided not to refund or comp us for our misery.

I cannot say I would recommend eating at this establishment after our experience and we likely will not return.

I stand by my comments: 3 of my family was sick within a short time after eating at the Lodge and the only person who did not get sick was the only person in our family that did not eat food from the Hickory Lodge. After several hours and immodium and pepto, the three of us were fine, no other illness. That's no stomach bug, the commonality was eating food...

1st time visit. It was packed inside & outside with a band playing but no wait time. I'm particular about Nachos & tried their Chili Beef Nachos. Tricolor chips with the toppings I look for on Nachos that other places do not offer was a pleasant surprise. They were not soggy either. Great start.👍

My date had 8 Buffalo Wings & loved the size & crispy skin. Mild Buffalo sauce had a unique flavor that makes u want more. Definitely not ur average sauce, strictly restaurant quality & it was very, very good.🥂

Next, we had amazing Seafood Linguine: Cherry tomatoes, diced Baby Asparagus & Onions in a velvety smooth Garlic Butter Wine sauce with actual Lump Crab Meat, Shrimp & Mussels. Had 3 small slices of Garlic French bread on top to mop up sauce. Outstanding seafood flavor all the way thru in every bite of pasta. I added Old Bay & lemons. Just right amount of pasta & ingredients. Amazing flavor! ❤

Ordered a side order of Baby Asparagus, cut it up & added it to my dish bc I like a lil green veggie in my Seafood Pasta. Asparagus already in it was sparse & not bright green, that was the only down point. It was Delicious & Outstanding Flavor! Highly recommend the Seafood Linguine.

Our waitress was friendly, prompt & attentive, always refilled our drinks 🍹 tho the place was quite bizzy.

Overall, was very impressed with the high quality of the food, the flavors, presentation & great service. Everything was served piping hot. 🏅

I called to do a carry out order and they said they don’t do carry out between 5 and 8. So i went up to sit at the bar and ordered a drink. I ask to order a carry out order and the were very nice at the bar at took my order while was having a drink. There was one couple at the bar and 3 table with 4 people at the restaurant. After a few minutes the bar tender said they could not do my carry out order which was 3 burgers. The order was canceled and i could reorder if i was eating there. I wish the management could tell me why I can order three sandwiches to eat there but not carry it out. Plus the place was empty inside. The bartender was very nice and took care of me unlike whichever employee in the back canceled out my order because it was a carry out order. This is not the first time it’s happened. This is a good way to drive away customers and it’s a good way for me to keep telling my friends not to come there anymore no wonder your business is probably dropping every time. I would like to hear back from management on why they will not let you order carry out at the bar but you can order food and eat it there when the place is empty. I would like a response thank you
