I stopped in for lunch as I always like going to Mom and Pop restaurants when I'm traveling with work. It was a decent sized Gathering of people here which is typically a good indicator but overall I wasn't really impressed. I had a patty melt and just change the cheese from Swiss to Cheddar. Accompanied by some tater tots and I was excited to try the apple cobbler for dessert. The Toasted Rye was perfectly cooked how's was the burger which I found to be slightly on the smaller side and probably could have used a few more onions. Tater tots were a welcome change and were fried up perfectly. Served up crispy and hot. The biggest disappointment for food came in the guise of apple cobbler which to be perfectly honest I only ate one bite of as it was soggy and rather strange tasting. The restaurant itself is in dire need of maintenance with ceiling tiles that are dirty and water soaked and a bathroom that looks worse than some gas stations I've been to. They do survey all-you-can-eat lunch buffet which feature some pretty nice-looking salad items some fried chicken that looked to be overdone and some hamburger and gravy that look like you could make a do-it-yourself potato turbate. The staff are incredibly friendly however and it is for their reason alone why I will give this place three stars...
Read moreMy husband research on line this place. I had planned to get the grilled cheese but saw they had breakfast. We order our drinks and sat and looked at the menu. Very large menu and large seating available. Our waitress was very bubbly, she had sparkling eyes under her dark brown frame glasses. I asked about the stack of tall hotcakes and she said, yes just butter. I ordered them and my husband ordered the hashbrowns crispy with toast, eggs, and a side of biscuits and gravy. While we waited more and more people came in. A couple behind us were talking and he was yelling at her, I felt bad for her. The food came and it looked great! I put some butter on the 1st pancake and cut into the 4 of them and cut them in half. Took a bite and it tasted tough like it was over cooked. Well I had 3 more, no worries. Something must have been on the grill when they were made. It was not what I expected, but my husband's food he said was Great! I ate his toast. We were just passing through so, we will have to try it another time, just get the grilled...
Read moreLooking for somewhere to find breakfast/brunch, my husband and I stumbled upon this little place years ago. It looked like one of those 'hole in the wall/greasy spoon' diners we love, so we gave it try. Nothing fancy but it was clean, cute and cozy and most importantly, the country cookin' was great! From biscuits and gravy to catfish and cheese grits! Today we took our, almost 4 year old, daughter there who is a pretty picky eater but likes bacon and pancakes. Surprisingly, she wanted a waffle. It wasn't on the kid's menu so we got her a good ole Belgian waffle w/ some crispy bacon, just how she likes it too, and she ate almost all of it! A rarity indeed. We were all very pleased with our meals. They were just starting to close but didn't rush us, the server was super friendly, and the food was just as good as it was the first time around! I was pregnant with my daughter the first time we were there so the fact that it's still there and still serving good, comfort food...
