UPDATE: visited Meldrums again today, and unfortunately the food we both ordered was not any good.. AND I HAVE TO EXPLAIN because this was just too much…My mom had a chicken salad sandwich that had pieces of gristley fat in the chicken salad and then noticed they didn’t even smear the chicken salad all the way on the croissant half! She ordered the half of sandwich and fruit cup. I know it wasn’t filling to eat.
I ordered chicken tenders they are homemade now and NOT good.. big chunky pieces of chicken. The chicken looked pinkish when I tore it apart because the texture was off. The pieces are so fat now, I think they weren’t cooked all the way thru. They used to be so good before! Then they changed them. I ate about half of the smallest one.
The ranch cup that came with the tenders was almost water! It was so watery, the ranch would drip off my fries when I tried to dip them in the cup. I just put the lid back on and gave up, it was dripping everywhere, on the table and myself.
I also had cottage cheese that was included, on the bottom of the plastic clear disposal cup there was written a date of 7/11. It’s the 14th or 15th now?? It didn’t taste right either, it was very milky and thick.
I ate it though, since I was going to say something about the chicken, I didn’t want to think I was being rude…..but I thought about everything that was wrong and HAD to say something.
The only good thing we ordered was my french fries that came with the platter. BUTTTT, the butter didn’t melt and stayed in squares on top of the pile of fries. They could have came to the table more hot. They were cold hence the pads of butter intact on top until they were ate. A lot of times, Meldrums made their french fries way too done, so I didn’t want to send them back and get them ruined. We ate them cold.
My Coca Cola was tasty with the good ice that they have, so that was one good thing.
My mom didn’t say anything about her sandwich because she hates to complain…also the Sprite my mom ordered had a after taste. If you know, the place, Shun Brun and what it smells like….THAT was the taste. Like a mildew after taste.. We didn’t say anything about that either, but I told her she should have just asked to trade it for something else. I’m sure the waitress would have obliged. The Sprite they serve had the same after taste once before like that I remember.
The waitress took half of the tender platter price off the bill. I think 6 bucks? The bill was still over 24.00 - not including tip. It would be 12.00 for the chicken tender platter. 5 chicken tenders with a cup of runny ranch, small fry, and cottage cheese….Entirely way too much for the entire platter to have something wrong everything.
Nothing was the waitress’s fault. She is actually the nicest one working there presently She’s good at giving refills and keeping a nice attitude your whole visit.
To be honest, we were really disappointed today with our food at Meldrums. We have ate here for many years, and it just seemed like everything we ordered had something wrong.
I wish they would bring back the tenders they carried before, they were sooo much better. If we eat here again, I’ll probably stick to ordering a hotdog…can’t mess that up.
This place has always been one of my favorite little places to get a bite to eat. Most of the waitresses and staff are friendly. Once in a while all the tables and booths are occupied and you might have to wait a couple minutes for someone to leave. Meldrums has a lot of variety on their menu. Including sandwich’s, dinners, dessert and they have good foundation drinks. Including chocolate cokes. New on the menu, you can get alcohol with your food. They also have quite a few ice cream flavors like they’ve always had. When the new owners took over they made the front almost like a little gift shop with homemade candies, cookies and other small items for sale. It feels a tad bit crowded inside. Especially when it gets busy. Overall it’s a yummy...
