We have just left Turk's a restaurant we have gone to for almost 20 years. We have never been more insulted in any eating establishment including fast food restaurants. My husband and I ordered the same thing. The day boat scallops but in different sizes. When our order arrived my husband noted that we had the same number of scallops - five each. We called the waitress over to ask what the difference in the orders should have been since we ordered one small and one large. She said she would check and get back to us. She never came back to tell us what the difference was so we finally grabbed her as she passed. She said the size was the difference and one should have had more scallops . We said the size our our order was the same- 5 scallops each. My husband had a larger plate but only five scallops the same size as mine.. She said she would check with the manager. She never got back to us but when the bill came the charges were $6 more for the bigger order with no explanation. When we went to pay we asked to speak to the manager . The manager said she had delivered the scallops herself and my husbands were eight and mine were five. We said that was not so that they were the same. Then someone said he probably had eaten three before we called the waitress over. They implied we were lying about the scallops. We are in our seventies - not kids and why would we lie about that . We had cocktails that cost more than that. Our bill was $70 and we usually leave a 20 percent tip. So no tip and they lost in the end. We paid less than if we had paid because we did not feel the staff deserved a tip. I cannot believe this kind of customer service anywhere much less in the service industry. In effect they were saying we lied for three scallops and $6. How insulting is that. The manager needs to be fired or demoted. She does not need to be working with customers. We went to have a nice meal and here I am writing a scathing review. Ask yourself why we would put ourserlves thru that. Business may be good now but business is fickle and it may be bad in the future if you continue to let your managers call the customers liars. As we could not believe the insult we asked to speak with the owner. He came out to talk to us and said he would adjust the bill. We told him that the issue was not the bill but how his staff had treated us. We told him we did not leave our usual 20 percent tip and to forget about adjusting the bill. Unfortunately we received no apology for our ill treatment. This will be our last visit to Turks. I do not need to spend $70 to...
Read moreTurk's is a restaurant and market. My party of four planned to meet at 1pm. The wait staff immediately sat two of us and did not make us wait for the other two who arrived about 15 minutes (at least were not seated at 1:04 when we were seated). Our server immediately brought us waters and took our drink orders. I ordered an unsweetened ice tea. The other guy ordered a California Negroni.
We were placed at an cover outside dining area. Our tabletop was a cool map of Martha's Vineyard. It was a pretty great conversation piece...my group spoke of Jaws bridge, Edgartown, John Belushi (a headstone can be found in chillmark), and other Vineyard stuff...
The other two order a pineapple based drink served in glass pineapple glasses. The drinks must of been smooth because the drinks disappeared.
We ordered apps. Beautiful fried calamari and rangoons came out first. I did not partake. However my eating companions described a nice mixture of tentacles and rings. The rangoons were wrapped in very light won-tons filled with a very sweet meat crab cream cheese mix.
12 oysters with homemade cocktail sauce followed and six cocktail shrimps.
A shared plate of egg rolls next appeared.
My early dinner companion ordered a watermelon mule. I finished my water with lemon.
We order our entree. I ordered a lunch/app. portion of mussels in a Portuguese sauce. Sweet onions, savory broth, and chourico (Portuguese sausage not to be confused with chorizo). My late friends (who came after 1:04) each ordered lobstah rolls. They both said it was properly season and the roll perfectly toasted.
My early friend ordered a ton of sushi. I think I heard spicy tuna and spider Maki...but I was to busy eating sashimi Maki and eel.
We sat and talked for a minute. Our bill came to $349.53. We ate so well!!
Turk is a famous seafood institution here! I recommend the outdoor eating although the indoor bar had lots of room too!!!
I forgot the two late eaters had clam chowder in a good size bowl. The chowdah was creamy looking and seemed to be full of...
Read moreI am from Utah so I don’t have an outstanding selection of seafood from my home. I traveled to Massachusetts to pick up a boat. I was determined to eat some delicious seafood. After asking many local folks where the best seafood was, Turk’s was consistently at the top of their list. I find that some of the best opinions, regarding food, come from baristas and bartenders. I gleaned some valuable opinions from people who actually work on the ocean as well. I enjoyed multiple rounds of fish and chips, sushi, chowder, lobster bisque and one lobster roll. The lobster roll was the only sandwich that I have ever purchased at “ market price “. It was worth every penny of that market price. The lobster roll was so decadent that I suffered from imposter syndrome. I am not generally an indulgent individual. I usually try to take pictures of excellent meals like these. The quality of the seafood induced such a trance that I spaced it. Something about cold water seafood is undeniable. The young man who took my takeout orders memorized my name by the second of five orders and he is professional, organized and polite. I will issue this establishment my highest compliment.
