We had heard that we must stop at Aunty Sandy's Banana Bread in Ke'anae, Maui while visiting there. I love supporting family-owned local businesses - especially this one - known for its warm, fresh-baked banana bread.
We researhed online and learned that it was started by Aunty Sandy Hueu in 1983; we met the granddaughter who is faithfully caring on the family tradition of making banana bread every day. It's right near one of the best scenic ocean views in all of Maui and is located on the Ke'anae peninsula. Daughter Tammy is friendly to all who stop by. You will be meeting the finest of local businesses and residents by stopping by.
The banana bread is a must-stop for anyone traveling on the Road to Hana.
We tasted several while on Maui, and I believe, it is indeed the best Hawaiian banana bread; I can see why it has gained world-wide recognition in magazines and on television. But it is the local families who truly love it and support this amazing little banana bread shop.
You can have a pineapple and coconut version that bursts with Hawaiian flavors! It's super moist and delicious. I hear it is made with creamed butter, buttermilk, and the best local bananas smashed to perfection. It is so good with natural flavors it needs less sugar than most, which is a total plus in my opinion. You can also purchase a Chili dog, an egg salad sandwich, other locally made snacks and gluten-free fruit smoothies. If noting else, I was grateful to all purchase an cold Gatorade for my journey ahead.
We highly recommend this banana bread and beverage shop. Don’t miss this outstanding local experience...

If you’re driving the Road to Hāna, or letting someone else like me do the driving…Tucked away just off the main road on the stunning Keʻanae Peninsula, this small roadside stand is famous for its warm, fresh banana bread — and for good reason. I once asked how many loaves they sell a day, and she told me they bake 400 loaves a day!
The banana bread is rich, moist, and full of flavor — easily one of the best on the island. They also offer chili and rice-a local favorite! + chili dogs, premade sandwiches, and a few other snacks that make for a great grab-and-go lunch.
While they used to have picnic tables, the place has become so popular that they’ve now removed them to allow more parking and keep the line moving. It’s now takeout only, but you can always take your food down to the beautiful nearby coastline to enjoy your lunch with an epic ocean view.
Another tip: they normally sell out between 1:15 and 1:30 PM, so go early if you want to be sure to get your hands on that famous banana bread. They’re also closed on Sundays, so plan your trip accordingly.
They now accept credit and debit cards, which makes things easier for visitors.
Whether it’s your first time on the Road to Hāna or your tenth, Auntie Sandy’s is a Maui tradition — and a delicious one at that. Don’t miss it!

ATMOSPHERE: The takeout spot is located at the midway point on the Keanae Peninsula. A few benches were available for perching. My advice would be to drive toward the end of the peninsula and enjoy your purchases there as the scenery is gorgeous!
MENU: Banana bread, sandwiches, hot dog, chili, saimin, ice cream, smoothie, soft drinks, candies and snacks.
FOOD: Banana Bread - $6.00/loaf Unfortunately they don't make them with walnuts but I added in my own at home, LOL. The loaf was fresh and warm at purchase, neatly covered in plastic wrap. Taste-wise it hit all the marks but a few of us thought it was a bit heavy and dense (maybe even overly-moist) compared to other recipes.
Coconut Candy I don't care for coconut in general but it was really good. Bits of tender and chewy coconut meat were seasoned with a sugary coating that wasn't overly sweet and complimented the fruit's natural flavor well.
SERVICE: The gals were welcoming and friendly.
TIP: $10 minimum purchase for credit/debit cards.
OVERALL: Good banana bread but not the...
