Cabo by the beach — Restaurant in Mayagüez

Excellent restaurant. It has an amazing view of the Mayagüez and it is located right by the sea. The service was extremely good, courteous very knowledgeable of the menu and how food was prepared. The food and drinks arrived promptly and exactly the way it was ordered. We ordered a plate of assorted appetizers, it was excellent!!!. We had different plates ordered as entree, from sea food and meats to sliders, and they all had one thing in common, everything was great. Even though the bar doesn't have a solid variety it is adequate since it have all the basics, and they did have Macallan, which it is a must for me, they also prepare an excellent Old Fashioned. Ordered two breaded appetizers; both over fried (oil too hot style) so came out dark and greasy. The fish croquettes had good flavour, but fell apart (most likely because over fried) and not enough filling. I was only delivered 3 instead of 4 croquetas, but charged full price and told I was "special". I could not even eat the "bolitas de queso" they were so greasy and made with cheddar; so not the traditional Puerto Rican style. The soup, which was not recommended by the waitress, was actually very good. It was bottom-of-the-pot salty, but filling and I would order again. However, I would call it a bisque or chowder, over soup. Old-fashioned cocktail was drinkable, but over sweetened and came with a red cherry. Fresh melon margarita was delicious. Cute place. Cute location. We came in a hour before closing and it was like they didn't want us to be there. Drinks were cute, but 100% not drinkable (lemonade that was straight lime juice and no sugar). Almost no service. They were out of everything except sliders. One of us was thankfully able to order shrimp and rice, but the rice was not fully cooked (crunchy every bite). The asparagus was also raw. Shrimp had no seasoning. The fench fries were great!

Tip: don't go at 8 pm and expect what all the positive reviews say. Also, wear bug spray. We were eaten alive. Though the tiki torches are cute, they don't...
