I visited this tavern as an anomaly to my typical establishments because I am a friend who was invited by the family of loved one whom we were honoring at this gathering. I cannot speak to the daily service of this establishment but want to distinctly comment on how they treated a group of people who were arriving after a memorial service. I don't know if this location was a place my friend frequented and that's why they were so attentive and kind but regardless I feel it deserves noting that her family and the company that was there were cared for consistently. Our waitress, Kris, checked on the family and everyone present with diligence, not annoyance. The food and atmosphere were warm and welcoming. Ultimately, I'm writing this review because I reached out to this tavern to ask if I could contribute to defraying the costs of whomever paid. They respectfully declined stating they had it covered and provided heartwarming examples of how they contribute to community through acts of kindness. That was enough for me to hit pause on the hustle and bustle of this intense world to to say thank you to McKean Tavern. Thank you for kindly and effortlessly feeding the family of my friend as they processed her loss and her immeasurable love. These seem like such small acts but to me, it was just a continuance of her...
Read moreThe Hubby and I went to the McKean Tavern after a long, tiring day, and felt at home when we entered, even though it was pretty full and about 7:00 on a Saturday night. There was one table available and we grabbed it.
Our waitress was on.the.ball to say the least! Friendly, fast, helpful. We had our order taken quickly and we were served quickly, but there were just the two of us. A larger group of nine people near us were there before us and they didn't get served until we were just about done eating, but maybe there were extenuating circumstances. They didn't seem unhappy.
We both had the half-pound burgers (Greek for him and the Showcase for me,) planning on taking half of eàch meal home, which we did. We both had onion rings as the side. The waitress brought extra napkins with the meals, saying that the burgers were messy, and they were - deliciously messy! I would say that my burger needed just a bit more salt seasoning, but that's all. The toppings were not stingy at all and were tasty.
I highly recommend the McKean Tavern if you want fast, friendly service and tasty burgers, pizza, subs and that...
Read moreWe have driven by the McKean Tavern many times on the way to visit family and never stopped in. Like they say, you can't always judge a book by its cover. From the street it appears to be a run of the mill tavern, but once inside and you work your way to the back, this is a great find! The covered patio is warm and inviting. A lot more seating than expected, live music (when we were there) and great food!
Our large group ordered a variety of items and the pizza (Buffalo Chicken) was a hit. The sandwiches and fries were tasty and the drinks nice and cold.
Our server seemed a little frazzled probably due to the workload. The request for a martini was met with a strange look but accommodated. The request for an Old Fashion later on was that she had no idea what it was and further that we pushed our luck asking for a martini lol.
We will definitely be back the next time we are in town. Something to look forward to especially when the patio is open!
UPDATE: Returned again and were equally impressed. Same great food and service. MT does...
