Been here several times and we absolutely love it. It’s as authentic to traditional Mexican cuisine as you would find in the area. If you like guac you need to try their homemade one. Hands down the best! Their house hot sauce is delicious as well as their house salsa.
That said….and here’s why they’re only getting 2 stars from me (subject to change) is because with the house guac they bring out just 3 tortilla chips. Of course they bring the basket of chips with the salsa when you sit down, but ok….I am going to munch on the chips with both the guac and salsa. Pretty normal thing to do and honestly we do that with just the chips and salsa. They oftentimes ask if you want extra chips for your salsa and although we ran low, it was at that moment when I asked the one amigo to grab some extra chips for me to take home. He said, let me check with your server because we usually charge extra. I said, well usually you offer a refill of chips and you didn’t, but ok whatever. I looked at my wife and said how odd he’d say that to us, especially since we are basically regulars there. Then our server (bald amigo) very nice guy, gives me a slight attitude when I asked for a handful of extra chips to take home. Again, I looked at my wife and said SERIOUSLY!? It’s a few chips and we just left a decent tip. I know it sounds petty, but I live my life out of principle. I felt that was just somewhat tasteless on Toros Cantinos to have given us an attitude simply asking for some extra chips, especially since they never offered to refill the chips we had almost none of left. Unfortunately being I live life out if principle means I won’t be going back unless the owner offers an apology, no matter how good the food is. There’s always the awesome Spanish food truck next to Valero I can go to.
If the owner sees this comment, I truly hope you train your staff better, especially as a new business in our area. It’s not like I asked for drinks to go or anything extra but a small handful of tortilla chips after spending $55 on our entrees plus a nice tip. Any other Spanish restaurant would not charge more for a handful of chips to go with a $9...
Read moreI had dinner here on Friday 7/19/24. It was very busy, but since I was by myself I was able to find a seat at the bar. After about ten minutes I was able to hail one of the two bartenders who were nonstop slinging drinks for the overly crowded restaurant. The bar is very small and you are right on top of the action so it’s not a very relaxing experience at all. I ordered a draft beer which was fine and started to nibble on the complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa did taste homemade and had a nice kick to it. Chips were stale and had no salt. I was finally able to order some food after about 25 min. I went with the King Toros Fajitas. The menu states that it comes with premium steak, chicken, and shrimp along with tomatoes, onions, peppers, mixed vegetables, salad, rice and beans and tortillas. The food came out about 15 minutes after I ordered. I noticed right away that it did not look like traditional fajitas when I saw cauliflower, broccoli and carrots on the skillet. The premium steak was no different than the other steak that I had seen on other fajita entrees. I pointed out to the server/bartender that there were no peppers onions and tomatoes and she acted like she did not understand and tried to show me a photo of the entree. I showed her where the menu specifically says what it comes with and that I did not receive that. After some back and forth they finally were able to understand what I was asking for and brought out a half cooked skillet of peppers onions and tomatoes. The dish itself was just bad overall. The proteins had no seasoning, the vegetables were not cooked very well, the rice and beans were cold and the tortillas were cold and obviously straight out of a plastic bag. Honestly the worst fajitas I have ever eaten. I may give them another chance someday, but this experience was not good at all. And to top it all off they added a credit card surcharge to the already overpriced generic Tex-Mex food. I had high hopes for this place but unfortunately cannot...
Read moreExcellent selection of premium and hard to find tequilas, including one of my absolute favorites, Clase Azul Reposado. They even have a top shelf margarita that uses it and it's served in a carefully cut down Clase Azul Reposado bottles.
The staff is very friendly!
Now onto the food! I really enjoy a few things that are easy to find, but sometimes lacking. One of them is al pastor. This place does a fantastic job with al pastor. Absolutely amazing.
Also, something they have on their menu that is tougher to find is shrimp and chorizo tacos. The shrimp is perfectly cooked, and chorizo is flavorful without being too-salty. The only small flaw with it was the amount of lettuce and how that impacts the very tasty sauce they put on top. Picking up the taco, the lettuce would want to fall off, and most of the sauce either wound up on the plate or on my fingers. So my recommendation here would be to ask them to hold the lettuce.
The fresh made guacamole is also great. I had it last time I was in (Aaron was my waiter - did a great job!). I eat a lot of guacamole, and there was something really incredible about this batch. I thought maybe they used scallions along with red onions. Aaron said they didn't, just the standard ingredients.
Steak fajita, also awesome. The portion and proportion is great, the onions and peppers perfectly cooked (the onions had that little bit of char, yum!)
Lastly, when I was in last I let Aaron know I liked spicy sauce/salsa, and asked him if he could bring me any habanero sauce. Not only did he bring me a few commercial bottles, but a bowl of their spicy house sauce - I think it's the sauce they use in their 'A La Diabla' and other spicy dishes. It wasn't exceptionally spicy, but had amazing flavor. I wanted to drink that stuff!...
