Caminos De Michoacan — Restaurant in Memphis

I was hesitant to write this review. It's not my intention to hurt this business in any way. However I think it's important to share my experience with the business owner and people who rely on this platform for recommendations. ( I got food poisoning from this restaurant). I went to this restaurant with high expectations. It was recommended to me by a friend. The food had a distinct taste. The beans were tangy and the rice heavy with spices. I attributed the flavors to regional cooking, after all Mexican food can be very regional with distinct tastes. The main dish were the chicken enchiladas. The chicken enchiladas also had a very distinct taste. The chicken was sweet. Honestly, it did not taste like any Mexican food I've ever had. I did not enjoy the taste of it. I did not finish the beans because they were tangy, the rice filled with spices and the chicken was sweet. I left disappointed but also bewildered by the taste. Several hours later I began to experience sharp stomach pains with diarrhea and several other symptoms such as headaches. I experienced this for two days. I also could not hold my food long enough to properly digest it. After doing some research, I came to the conclusion that I had food poisoning. And that I got it from this restaurant. Excellent place and almost never to busy. A very good panaderia serving up many freshly baked classics (conchas, orejas, empanadas, churros) as well as bread pudding, donuts, and many more. A fairly standard menu with some exceptions (like lengua). In the winter they have some of the better tamales in Memphis and champurrado (they are not always on the board so ask). This is the best non-homemade champurrado I've had (it's like Mexican hot chocolate thickened with masa harina (corn meal)). Their cakes taste great but I was a little dissapointed with my daughters 4th bday cake. $100 and they couldn't even have someone write out "feliz cumpleaños Sophia" in nice writing, I don't even understand why they put the quotation marks around her name on the cake?.. I bought in the little decorations around the cake (pineapples & flamingos) or else it would've been pretty plain... They could've easily put her pic to one side wrote out the words nicely..
