We have been to a different Elena's but this was the first time at this particular store (Summer Ave. [Hwy. 70, I think], and Raleigh-LaGrange). There is no drive-thru, but they have a walk-up window as well as the option to go inside. The service was very good, the staff helpful and polite. My husband and I got the fish burrito and the bean-and-cheese burrito, and had them fry it (a small extra charge but SO worth it); we also got chips and cheese, not remembering that each burrito comes with chips (although the cheese is not included with the burrito but you can order it as a side). We checked with the staff before ordering the fish burrito because my husband has a shellfish allergy, and we wanted to share both burritos. I don't know what happened, but my husband had a severe allergic reaction (I came close to driving him to the emergency room, but he recovered with antihistamines and exercise), I can only imagine that either the fish burrito also had shrimp in it (which they do use in other burritos), there was some cross-contamination, or he was allergic to something in their house sauce. He has not had that reaction before. We did enjoy both burritos, in spite of my...
Read moreLet me start by saying this is not mexican food. Im in town from Chicago and was craving mexican food. The name made me think i had found a good spot. No one resembling a Elena works here. I took a peek in the kitchen and no mexican cooks on hand. They were not even playing mexican music in the background. No one on the premises was mexican. This was Indian food disguised as pretend Mexican. The person taking my order and the person passing the food along are both of Indian or Pakistan descent. If you are craving mexican food, dont let the name fool you like it did me. I should have walked out when i saw "rolled tacos" on the menu. You mean Flautas? Thats the real name and is just another sign this is not authentic mexican food. The spices are not mexican. And now i have Indian food aftertaste. Im sorry. I cannot endorse this place as real or authentic mexican food. It should be moved to another category in the google search results. If you dont know what mexican food is then you may be fooled and you may enjoy this but someone craving mexican food needs to find a different place. ...
Read moreWe have been long time supporters of Elena’s and it has been a family favorite. The last four visits have been bad. I don’t know if there’s new ownership or if they are struggling after the pandemic but a staff member at the Lakeland location was rude as soon as we walked in (Maddie). She also refused to remake the meal after the wrong order was brought out. When we opted not to eat the meal we didn’t order and asked for a refund they wouldn’t provide a confirmation receipt. The owner called me upon my request to get a copy of the receipt and she was very unapologetic for the actions of the employee. Our family of seven is sad bc it was a family favorite but we won’t be back.
(Other visits included burritos that fell apart as soon as you picked them up, a 12 inch hair coiled into my first bite and they took our order to the wrong table. After the other table opened up the wrappers, they were the ones who brought it to us. I know I’m gross for going back so many times. It’s a testament to how much we used to love their food and...
