La Ilusion Bakery — Restaurant in Memphis

I ordered a cake for my anniversary given that my wedding cake was from this place. I absolutely loved my wedding cake, it was a tres leches cake and was so delicious. I wanted to celebrate my anniversary with the same type of cake from how much me and my husband loved it.

This tres leches cake was unbelievably the driest cake I have ever had. If you’ve ever had a tres leches cake I’m sure you know how moist and soaked in milk it’s supposed to be. I actually couldn’t believe how dry and tasteless this cake was. We were so disappointed. I called the next day to ask for a refund because we could not eat this cake and I get told that ‘it isn’t on the bakery if the cake isn’t good.’

How is that a professional response? It is YOUR job as bakers to make sure your product is good and your customers are satisfied with it. On top of the taste being completely off, the shape of the cake was incorrect, as was the writing on the cake. The woman also told me it’s my fault for not giving the cake back when I saw the shape was wrong. I told the woman who handed me the cake the shape was supposed to be circular and she shrugged and just said “sorry.” I was told other things among the conversation but the main point was that it was not their fault or responsibility how it turned out. She told me I should have brought it back right away, but it was already after they closed. So I call the next morning and they can’t take it back and won’t refund me. She blamed everything on me and then hung up the phone in my face. This is legitimately my first time reviewing anything, that’s how upsetting this whole thing is.

Anyone ordering in the future: just be careful, because they do not care how you feel about...

This bakery is located on American Way but they don’t seem very welcoming to non Hispanic Americans. Why is it that no one in the bakery speaks English? Oh the irony. How do you expect to serve your NON HISPANIC customers if the cashier doesn’t even speak English? When you walk into the bakery, the atmosphere is unwelcoming. People are staring lmao awkward. I purchased a three milk cake and a few pieces of bread and some candy it cost over 90 dollars. WTH kind of bread did I buy. Maybe I need to learn some Spanish or something because I definitely did not plan on spending that kind of money on some paper bag bread and a cake. I should have just walked out, but I went ahead and bought it because the cake was for a birthday. The girl at the cash register seemed to be Frustrated I guess because she didn’t understand English and I didn’t understand Spanish and it seems like she didn’t want to understand me. She need some milk and a nap. They would make more money if they were pleasant and accommodating to all races of people that patronize their business. And I spent over 130$ in this bakery in past 2 days. And the owners blamed this on an employee error.
