Red Plate Diner — Restaurant in Midland

Slightly disappointed, I haven’t been here in years & was looking forward to it based on the many positive reviews given recently. Unfortunately, I did not have the same experience. We waited an hour for our food, no appetizers or dessert, although our waiter made sure to inform me that we had not been waiting an hour because the ticket said otherwise. I wasn’t sure why that was relevant, obviously the wait had been long enough for me to ask where the food was. I am a fairly understanding & patient person, there were only 3 other tables, it was after the lunch rush, I just felt the wait was a little excessive for what we ordered. Not only did he go back there to check the food, he went back there to check the time to tell me I was wrong in how long I had been waiting? When we did get the food, it was underwhelming. Chicken was dry and rubbery, no seasoning. The burger was 1 piece of meat with a slice of cheese in between 2 pieces of toast, even though it was advertised to come with all the toppings. Sad to say I will not return, which sucks because I love supporting locally...

I haven’t been here in a while and it’s expected it to be great like how it was before, But once I sat down I noticed spots on the table. Now I don’t know if it was clean or just permanent but it didn’t feel cleaned. My cups had this white sauce under them and honestly the cup didn’t look too clean, When I asked for another one it was clear all they did was wipe it and call it a day. But you could still see white sauce a little. Another thing was tho cornbread it’s good but way over priced just for one slab of it, It was 5 dollars and somehow it’s more expensive then a side of fries in a bowl as it was 2 dollars. Another thing was the food most toppings were clearly canned and not fresh, The hamburger tasted bitter there was no joy no satisfaction. And the service was okay our waiter forgot to bring us lemons and unprofessional gave us our check. Tried this place on a whim. I saw the picture of the strawberry short cake on fb and decided why not. I had a Ruben sandwich and the wife had a chicken fried steak sandwich. But what made the meal was the green chile stew!!! OMG WAS IT GOOD!!!! If they sell it by the gallon I'm there. Stephanie came out from the kitchen to speak to the customers (rare these days so kudos to her) and spoke to us. I told her I saw the cake on fb and she made me one personally!!! A great experience this place used to be Swensons and is now much better. The wait staff is all high school kids nice to see them out working they are very detailed in their cleaning I WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK AGAIN!!!! GO TRY THEM YOU WONT BE...
