Oh my goodness! If you are ever in Miles City, Montana, you must stop here! This is going to be a long post, so please bear with me. We started off with the crab wontons (served with sweet and sour sauce) and the mozzarella sticks (served with marinara sauce). As you can see the crab wontons are good sized and full of crab and other such ingredients. The taste was great, texture was pleasing. The sweet and sour sauce had somewhat of a peppery taste. This may sound weird but please if you get the chance, dip the wonton in the marinara sauce (thank me later). The mozzarella sticks were delicious and my favorite part was when you pulled them and the cheese snapped, it didn't pull all of the cheese out of the other side, like you see at a lot of places. The marinara sauce is served warm and the flavor is on point. Now for the main course I ordered the 14oz ribeye with a salad. The salad was fresh and crisp, the croutons are cheesy, and the Bleu cheese dressing is so creamy! I didn't find any big chunks of cheese in it but the flavor was all there. I ordered my ribeye rare and it came out prepared perfectly. Now I will say if you are a fan of a lot of seasoning on your steak, do not get steak here. They use just a tiny bit of salt, pepper, and maybe garlic for seasoning. There was a bit more fat on the steak than I was expecting but the flavor and texture was delightful. My Husband ordered the Buffalo burger with truffle fries. The burger comes with a bacon jam and it gave it a sweet tone with a spicy after taste. The meat was cooked perfectly and the bun is seasoned with black pepper parmesan. The flavor combination worked very well together. The fries were cooked to perfection and they were seasoned beautifully. We ended with the chocolate lava cake and the strawberry cheesecake. I cannot say enough great things about the chocolate lava cake. It was the most moist, melt in your mouth, heavenly piece of love I have ever had the pleasure of devouring. The cheesecake was delectable. Very creamy, the crust was well done and the strawberries were extremely sweet. On top of all of this, the service was some of the best in the country. I didn't catch our servers name but she was a little long haired blonde girl with blue eyes and she was so sweet! She was quick to give us some awesome recommendations and didn't get frustrated with us when we weren't sure what we wanted. She didn't keep bugging but she did check on us a couple times to make sure we were OK. I 100% recommend everyone go here. Yes it is pricey but so worth it! Our bill came to $93. We definitely left full and...
Read moreMy wife and I visited this beautiful restaurant at the recommendation of the front desk from our Hotel. Even from the parking lot, this was a lovely place. The decor and design were welcoming and in keeping with the Black Iron theme. We were told we'd have a 10-minute wait (at peak time on a Friday) and we're seated in more like 4 minutes. The hostesses at the front desk were professional, efficient, and friendly. From the moment we walked in, even though I'd never been there before, I knew what I was ordering, as the special board read that one of the specials was a buffalo ribeye. I didn't even need to see a menu after that. I ordered the truffle fries and coleslaw to accompany my steak, and a locally brewed Scotch ale. My wife ordered the brisket mac-n-cheese with a Blue Moon. My steak was incredible. It was perfectly prepared to my requested rare. Most often truffle salt or truffle oil are used my unskilled chefs trying to pretend that they are offering a high-end meal. The truffle fries were not this at all. There were perfectly prepared fries complimented by truffle salt instead of covered up by it. And my coleslaw was amazing, however I was disappointed to learn that it was not house-made. My wife's dish was delivered with a generous portion of pasta and (more importantly) brisket, It was substantial enough that she could not eat the entire portion. The brisket was amazing and the Cavatappi was perfectly al dente. Unfortunately, though, the cheese sauce was much more of just a bechamel sauce, there wasn't much cheese in it. So the dish, overall had a runny, thin consistency instead of that ooey-gooey, cheesy experience one would hope for from a macaroni and cheese dish. The biggest disappointment of our visit came from our waiter. From the very first encounter we felt that we were annoying him with our presence in the restaurant. When my beer went empty, and I was unsuccessful at flagging our waiter down, I was able to get the waitress at the table next to ours to get me another. And when he asked later, in passing, on his way to another table if we needed anything, he was clearly annoyed that we did, indeed, want to order something else. He even just dropped our stuff on the table on the way by without a word, and never even asked us the obligatory, "would you like any dessert tonight?" We felt as if he just wanted us to leave as soon as possible. The rest of the staff, however, were amazing, delightful, friendly, helpful in his absence, and welcoming. If not for $0.50 worth of cheese added to the mac and his awful service this would be a 5-star rating...
Read moreAfter a long day on the road, we were looking for a good meal, and all of the online reviews pointed us toward Black Iron in Miles City. (Between the online reviews and the menu, we knew it would be great!)
We arrived around 6:30-ish on June 10. The first thing we noticed was a nice, clean, pleasant atmosphere. Nobody was behind the counter when we first came through the door, but the hostess quickly appeared. This is the only negative part of the review, so bear with me...
There's really not a delicate way to say it. The hostess was awful. A very petite blonde who appeared to be about 20 years old. She had a scowl on her face, and all of her communication with us was mumbled to the point I had to keep asking her to repeat herself, which visibly angered her even more. One of the questions she asked was if we preferred the dining room or the bar. We preferred the dining room, which also upset her. She was very "put off" that we preferred the dining room, and she stated that we'd just have to wait a minute because she didn't know what was going to be available. It wasn't what she said as much as how she said it. Her face was in a perpetual scowl, and she was very irritated to be interacting with us.
We knew it wasn't directed at us personally, as we had literally just walked in the door. We also watched for the duration of our visit, as she scowled at everyone and everything. Her attitude was such a production that my husband commented that it was like a comedy scene out of Seinfeld.
Thankfully, the rest of the experience was wonderful! Our server (Shaylaa was the name on the ticket... super short blonde hair, lots of arm tats) was friendly and provided great service. We also noticed that every other employee was friendly and had a smile on their face.
The food (I had salmon with sautéed mushrooms, my husband had brisket) was delicious. We each had a salad, which was fresh and tasty.
Overall, the experience was great. It's only a shame that such a negative person was the first interaction we had upon...
