Chicken Palace and La Jarochita — Restaurant in Milwaukee

RACIST STAFF!!! I drove by this place which looked familiar from social media. I was ecstatic to try something new…only to be dehumanized and mistreated. I was the sole black person in the building (which I didn’t mind until) I was met with judgmental glares. I was blatantly ignored for a MINIMUM of 10 minutes before my order was even taken. Instead of being serviced, I was told to wait as the young cashier left to cackle with coworkers. She returned and shooed me off/rudely gestured for me to wait as she deprioritized me for multiple phone calls. Basically, I was put on hold for orders which came after me?! I finally received my fruit cup after an unnecessary wait. All to which I responded gracefully and waited patiently/quietly for. The workers were speaking amongst themselves in Spanish, which sometimes seemed to be targeted at me. Two male staff members were staring at me with predatory disdain. Literally staring at me like I was a piece of meat whether I looked away or smiled sheepishly. The older lady with the glasses creepily stared AS she talked on the phone. She also never broke eye contact despite being close in proximity. It was extremely awkward and made me feel uncomfortable. This is when it gets good- or bad. I decided to add on two birria tacos. I was told there was a minimum purchase requirement of three tacos. Looking back, this was a lie as tacos are individually priced on the menu. I made a quick call during my transaction as I was having an issue with my card. A phone call which lasted 17 seconds long. The older lady with the glasses made exasperated expressions throughout the length of this call. She started sighing dramatically and saying “Oh my god!”. She rolled her eyes and was trying to get the other employees to laugh at me. She was overly-exaggerated and visibly annoyed with me. This was completely unwarranted as I was kind and accommodating. I am a young black woman, she is an older lady, and I felt bullied/targeted. I felt the need to advocate for myself. I told her that she was being rude to me without knowing me/my story. I also told her she needed to pray and ask God for forgiveness. She continued to disregard me. I stated that she had a bad attitude, she acknowledged this, and agreed. Repeating the words “I know”. This entire experience sickened me, completely dwindled my high energy. I entered with a smile and left with a frown. I told her I no longer wanted the tacos. I hardly wanted to spend ANY of my money at their establishment. I still appreciated their service and bought the fruit cup since it was already prepared. I thanked the rude lady and left. My frustration led into tears. This is some of the WORST customer service I’ve EVER experienced! If you are black, DO NOT shop here. If you’re non-black and care about individual’s right to be treated kindly, DO NOT shop here. The fruit cup was mediocre and surely wasn’t worth the turmoil. Save yourself the embarrassment...

I placed an online order this past Sunday, through their website and when I arrived they couldn't find my order. The woman who first asked me who's name the order was under, was extremely nice to me, but the older woman with the glasses who I can only assume is the owner had a terrible attitude. They could not find the order and kept asking me for the name, then asked me what I ordered and I relayed that information to the both of them. So the older lady asked me to show her proof that I had placed the order, to which I showed her the confirmation page WITH the confirmation number on it, and she shook her head and said she needed to see my entire order. So I go to my email, only to find an email with the same information and no detailed order. I showed her. Nope, said she could not give me anything until I showed her my detailed order. It wasn't until the other woman yelled out "Ohhhhh it was through WIX!".... that the older woman realized oohhhmygaawwdd an order ACTUALLY came through the BUSINESS WEBSITE, that THEY set up and was ACCEPTING orders and CHARGING people. The older woman asked me again what my order was, which I told her for the 4th or 5th time, to which the other woman called out "I have her order right here-" And was cut off because the older one wanted to hear it from me, AGAIN. She still did NOT want to give me the order, until I finally told her that they had charged my card and taken the money out of my account. Only then did she finally budge and allow the other woman to give me what I had ordered. When I walked up to get my food, I overheard the same old woman being extremely rude to another customer. They all need to realize that without customers, their business would not exist. She needs hop off her high horse and learn people skills or get off that register and hire someone who knows how to communicate. I won't be a...

Such small quantities. I shared a half chicken dinner with friend and we were both still starving. I will definitely order more next visit. Good char on chicken. Pleased to see the chicken was well cooked, not raw in the middle like other places like Popeye's. The best onions too because they were very good and perfectly grilled. The salsa have no levels so I had trouble knowing which ones were hot or mild. Menu was confusing to first time customers. Tortillas were delicious and so hot and fresh. I ate mine with a tad of butter. Perfection! Definitely a fantastic place for chicken just a wierd parking lot, location with traffic a pain. But once inside you definitely can smell the aromas of deliciousness. Staff not very friendly because I guess they thought I was just some gringa but I do speak Spanish. Their vibe made me feel a little out of place but the chicken was great. French fries were greasy and kind of old and stuck together. Yuck.
