When I saw Korean Fried Chicken driving by I was excited. Korean fried chicken is extremely popular and if unfamiliar it is known for its crispy, often thick coating of batter then double-fried to achieve that extra crispy thick exterior and then it's typically seasoned extremely well and great sauces. It's almost always wings drummies thighs and if boneless almost always boneless thigh as dark meat is juiciest even then it's typically marinated. It's not common but breast is used but usually as an optional and if they have it it's going to be smaller pieces that were marinated so it's juicy and still able to get thick crispy exterior.
I was extremely disappointed they only had boneless which was odd but ok but then I get basically two whole chicken breasts that had a thin layer of crispy batter unseasoned. It's this gunk of dry white meat and sauces were on side essentially chili oil but this was a let down and it's not going to be a one off thing it's just not a good place to get it.
As for service which I personally have no expectations and not bothered especially if I'm getting go but it's going to be a little awkward I'll leave it at that. I think these are people trying to run a business but not necessarily knowledgeable or happy about it just trying their best. Use literally anything other than an entire chicken breast but if you do a guarantee who ever owns the place and has process or recipe I would bet it's not dip whole breast with no seasoning unmarinated into that batter for a second and deepfry the heck out of it so it's cooked but dry then hand to customer and make sure to be consistent when customer says great thank you by saying nothing and continue making sure the diet coke is stocked you wouldn't want customer experience to somehow make up for the Korean fried chicken doesn't resemble any Korean fried chicken anywhere but you know it's Minnesota they won't know it's cheaper to buy and make more profit margin and easier for your cooks who aren't cooks to deal with and not prep in any way....the diet coke was...
Read moreI travel all over the Twin Cities at least once a week for Asian food. I crave it. When I learned a Korean fried chicken spot opened here in Minnetonka- I couldn’t wait to visit.
I came for lunch. My first impression was a cashier that never greeted me. Maybe it’s her first job. Maybe she was having a bad day. Either way, there was zero hospitality present.
I ordered a “two piece” chicken and the loaded fries. With tip, the total came to about $25. On the high end of what I’d expect to pay for a grab your own napkin lunch spot.
I’ve never seen 2 chicken breast referred to as “pieces”. But, that’s what it was. There was no seasoning to the breading. The small cup of sauce was on the side. The upside - the chicken was cooked perfectly to temp. A small thing, but worth nothing.
The fries were a mess. A base of very mid fries, undercooked then topped with cilantro, peppers and seasoning. A side of mayo on the side.
Both dishes were plated really well.
I finished my chicken because I came hungry. The fries died on the counter.
I appreciate my neighbors who have given this spot a 5 star review. That’s the best part about restaurants - there’s something for everyone. It’s not easy running a small business, and I wish them the best of luck. For me, I’ll take the ride to Bonchon or...
Read moreVery excited to have this new place on the west side. I generally prefer my Korean BBQ fried chicken coated and deep fried in the sauce but I did enjoy the juiciness and crispness of this chicken. I definitely want to try more sauces but the one we got, the sesame ginger, was really good. I would suggest getting more than one sauce because the chicken pieces are very generous in size! The grilled beef short rib was flavorful and super tender. The sweet potato had alot going on. It was very flavorful, I enjoyed the sweet, spicy, and savory aspect of it. I could only do one piece because my taste buds were a bit overwhelmed, so it was a bit much for me. The rice noodle salad was disappointing because I had no idea it was spicy so I couldn't enjoy it. The chicken sausage was delicious as was the soft boiled egg. If I did it again I would get the vinegarette on the side because there was way too much and it was too spicy. I did mention to the server that I would recommend letting people know it was spicy because there was no indication whatsoever on the menu. Overall, I would definitely come back and try more stuff on the menu. I would definitely get the short rib and fried...
