Abelardo's Mexican Fresh — Restaurant in Missouri Valley

In town moving family to assisted living. after a very long day, we were Very hungry so thought we would stop to eat before heading back to Omaha. Party of 3 got our food not only cold but tasted horrible!!! We could not eat it . There for about a hour and hit the road to omaha. Very soon had severe cramps nauseated and sweats and I had a hard time driving.. Barely made it to council bluffs. And we all got very very sick. I called them that night when I got home and felt like I could use the phone. I was suppose to get a phone call back from a manager the next day … Saturday. No phone call back. One of us a 74 year old almost had to go to the hospital she was so ill. Will be reporting this to the state. Update on this message as follows the manager of the restaurant Brian is what they said never called me back after several attempts, so I finally called them during lunch hour thinking I could catch him. And all he could say to me was get a note from a doctor stating we had food poisoning. I could not believe it. It was a Friday night, doctors office is closed and the doctors office is not open on Saturday. He totally acted like he did not believe us. I was not originally trying to make a big issue out of it and would’ve liked to had our money back since we could not eat the horrible food, and he did not...

Gross. Sorry, but it was. We ordered 4 things and it was $25. I looked at the receipt and we ordered a single chili relleno but they rang it up as a burrito. Instead of putting the $8 difference back on my card they gave me cash, which was OK, but kind of weird. I would think normal store protocol would be to refund back to my card (to avoid paying merchant fees, etc.) but whatever.

As to the food, we ordered nachos w/guac. The guac was a runny paste. No visible onions or cilantro--just a pale green paste. The cheese on the nachos was shredded and not melted. It was weird. My beef enchilada was cold--also had unmelted shredded cheese on it. My wife's relleno was warm (not hot...just warm) but the pepper was too spicy for her. Usually they don't have a spicy pepper in there. I think she got a chicken something or other and said it wasn't anything special.

Waited in drive thru line quite awhile which would not be a big deal if it was worth it. The size of the burrito was impressive but it should be for over $11.00. Lots of meat that was tasteless and worse yet.. stone cold. This tells me it was probably left over from previous day? Carne Asada typically has flavor and tender plus there was not alot of toppings that was suppose to be included.. Pico and guacamole. This was probably a good thing because the gauc was runny with nothing in it...again.. no flavor. Had I not already been down the interstate, I would have returned it. I likely wouldn't have given a review except I saw the other customer with similar experience so felt it needed to be addressed. Cold product could cause other issues.
