If you have some tíme to take off of the raid, I highly recommend stopping at Penny's! We have driven past this place so many times and now wonder why we have never stopped! This little diner shares a lot with the hotel so you may need to park behind the diner. Take time to look at all of the photos in the front door entrance. Booths require at least 2 occupants, if not there is a line of stools at the counter. We had used the mobile menu to bowse as our server was busy bopping around. They came over quickly and took our drink order. We gave our menu order, hubby ordered the chili cheese dog with fries and more chili cheese on that, which they did mention was going to be at an additional charge. I ordered the philly with fries. As we waited we enjoyed the diner ambiance and watched how busy this place was! The servers never stopped moving, not once! They made up handmade shakes and even made a cup of chocolate milk for a young boy. I can tell you that the next time we go, we will be ordering a club. About 5 of them went out of the window! Our food was amazing and they do boast of their famous chili, which I would agree was really good! Our drinks were never below half full. Overall we will be sure to stop back at this 24-hour diner to enjoy the food, the atmosphere, and the amazing service that I hope will always continue

We saw the sign on the interstate and figured we would check it out. It was a pleasant experience, and we're glad we stopped. A quick tip: Make sure your phone can capture a QR code to access the menu. We ordered the Frisco and western burgers and had a chocolate banana shake for dessert. There were many items on the menu we wanted to try, but we were extremely full. Our waitress was nice and provided good service. She even put the shake in 2 glasses since we said we would split one. It's definitely an old diner feel, and they were playing music from the 70s and 80s. It's a little tucked away behind the hotels and gas stations, but is worth the stop. I'll be back!

Disappointing is an understatement! Showed up on a Saturday at 7 pm to get dinner and support a local restaurant only to be told the dinner is closed with no reason and a very rude unprofessional employee all while people are coming out of the restaurant and eating inside! To say I’ll never go back is an understatement and management should be ashamed they let their employees sit in their vehicles during work all while pushing paying customers away! Open signs are ON everywhere as well and if the restaurant doesn’t want to be open to the public during public hours I think it’s time for a public Hartley department request!

DO NOT STOP AT THIS LOCATION!

this Penny's was great at first, but its been in a terrible decline since my first visit, and tonight was the final straw with them. the staff here tonight on may 31st one of the most incompetent I've ever had, and I've been to waffle houses in texas.

first off as soon as we got there this old man was blocking the front door so we assumed this location was closed again for one of the many ridiculous reason it has been before. we asked him repeatedly if they were close as he blocked the door, and he ignored us, and kept starring. eventually he moved,we went inside, and sat down in a booth. the old man wearing a black hat proceeded to sit at a stool across from us. and just stared at my wife, so we assume "oh he's probably just some weirdo customer" but nah apparently he works there cause he kept walking in the back where the kitchen was.

so after taking our drink order the brunette waitress just walked behind the counter, and never came back to get our order. they weren't busy, and they had three people working behind the counter. the blonde one was fiddling around with silverware not really doing anything, and the older bald gentleman kept going outside for smoke breaks. the brunette waitress stood behind the counter, kept making eye contact with me, but ignored us, and then proceeded to take someone who just walked in to-go order.

so we figured maybe after she takes that order she'll come over...20 minutes passed, and nothing, she just sat behind the counter bragging how she made $100 in tips today... couldn't imagine how with such poor quality service.

So do yourself a favor just avoid this location, if you are heading along that freeway and get off at that stop just go to McDonald's, Arby's, or...

I don't know if it's the new way of ordering or the quality of the food but both have gone down considerably. If you're lucky enough to get the online menu to come up and complete your order (using your cell phone as devices are non-existent), you will never get a payment to go through. The online ordering payment portion of the system isn't connected to the restaurant's computer system so it's useless. This information would have been useful at the beginning of our lunch...not 20 minutes later when the waitress finally decided to check on us and see if we've placed our order. And certainly before I put all my personal information, including my credit card number, into their website to pay for our meal. (I was reassured that the payments definitely aren't reaching the restaurant's system but they aren't sure if it's going anywhere else!!! I was also unable to cancel anything as the payment screen received frozen leaving me no choice but to shut down the web page ). Paper menus are non-existent at Penny's but may be a wise choice until their technology issues are rectified. It's not that hard people! In an area where the population is as low as it is, what is the point of the online ordering system? Major cities have it yes, it's needed, but in a smaller town maybe it's better to keep it personalized and make people feel like they are in a small town and are welcome. I don't think we'll be coming back there anytime soon. And it's sad because it used to be a really wonderful place to go. The food was excellent, service was good and you couldn't find a reason to complain. And now, sadly, we can't find a reason to go back. Hope if you go you have better luck...

Horrible experience, rude staff, and terrible food. We arrived at about 9:30am and the restaurant was about half full. We sat at the table for almost 15 mins before our waited came around to get our drink order. Once she came back with our drinks we ordered food right away. While waiting for our food we ended up drinking all of our coffee and another lady came around and refilled the cups. We asked for creamer and she said just a min, well she never came back with creamer. We waited another 30 mins before our other server walked by (not checking on us) and we asked for creamer again and made a rude comment "you already used all of that?" When there was only 5 tiny creamers in the bowl from our original coffee and we used 2 each. Then we asked when our food would be coming and she goes "you should be next". We waited another 45 mins to get our food. It took over an hour and a half to get our food from the time we ordered and it's wasn't even good. The hashbrowns were almost still raw, eggs were way over cooked, and the toast was partially burnt. We asked for water refills and the lady literally rolled her eyes at us while grabbing us waters... we had been there for almost 2 hours at this point. The servers never checked on us besides the 1 refill and dropping off our food. Then when it came time to pay, it took over 15 mins just to get the check and when we went up to pay the lady was just straight up rude and had a horrible attitude.

Save your money and...
